how close to 1/43 scale are Reaper figures?

For 1/43, you probably want something around 42mm. This is a bigger than Reaper's Heroic scale (28~32mm "ish"), and smaller than the 72mm special editions.

If you were to place Special Agent Jones, an ordinary human figure (with extraordinary equipment), next to your model car he would be a bit over an inch tall. The metal tick-marks in his photo (right edge) are half-an-inch apart. Most of the recent photos have Bryangles.

All things being equal, most of Reaper's minis should be roughly 1/50. I use 1/50 - 1/55 model cars whenever possible and my player pals give my table rave reviews.

 

However, many here will be quick to point out that not everything is equal (people love to argue scale). I do have 1/48 scale cars on my table, and a rare 1/43, but that is pushing it.

Depends on the figure. Some are very small and some are very large.

 

I brought Jahenna, Vampire (2632) from storage and was hoping she wouldn't be too small to fit in with some Foundry Street Violence figures. When I put her side by side with a couple of Foundry figs I found out she was significantly taller. This particular mini s probably closer to 1/48 than 1/56 or 1/60 that most people mean by 28mm.

In my experience, the newer Reaper minis work rather nicely with 1:43 scale vehicles, even though, if you do the math strictly by miniature heights, they probably *shouldn't*.

 

Reaper miniatures are technically a bit short to go with a 1:43 scale car, if you're going strictly by miniatures height, but on the table, THEY LOOK FINE next to them. I ran a zombie apocalypse campaign, and picked up a bunch of 1:43 scale vehicles for car wrecks and such. 1:43 scale should translate into a miniature that is 1.67" tall (assuming that the character represented is about 6 feet tall in "real life"), and the Reaper minis on the 30mm bases tend to be around 1.25" tall measured from the base of the feet up to the eyes, or around 1.4" tall measured to top of the head. (It's hard for me to be sure, since most of my Savage Worlds minis wear HATS.)

 

I've found that this is still close enough to "look right," because:

a) Miniatures aren't proportioned exactly to scale with real human bodies. The limbs are slightly thicker, features more pronounced, etc.

b) Gaming miniatures come with built-in "elevator shoes" in the form of those bases they stand on. Even if the figure WAS a bit short compared to a 1:43 scale car, put it up next to it, and it'll look about right, what with the extra boost from the base and all.

 

For eyeballing purposes, the newer Reaper miniatures (particularly those in the Chronoscope and Savage Worlds lines) look pretty good next to 1:43 scale toy vehicles, in my opinion. I think they work BETTER with 1:48 scale models, but it's hard to find the right vehicles in that scale sometimes (mostly just military models). Roughly going by figure measures, Reaper miniatures SHOULD be most at home with 1:50 scale vehicles, but due to those issues I mentioned earlier, at a glance such vehicles just *look* a little too small for them, in my opinion, even if I know, by measurements, that "should" be about right.

Reaper, and other heroic minis in the 28-32mm high realm tend to look fine next to 1/43 and 1/48 cars and trucks. I use alot of them for my post-apoc games and even sometimes use larger scales like 1.40. As was mentioned before, the figures heroic "bulk" means that while they may be a bit shorter, they're just as wide as figures in 1/43 or 1/48 scales.

 

Also, remember that much of what passes for 1/43 is "Box scale" meaning that it's called 1/43, but the actual scale may vary a bit as it's sized to fit inside a certain size toy carton.

Pretty much this. The car will be a little large, but not overly so. The base makes up for it
