Anne
Sounds good, thanks for the headsup on the animal situation
psyberwolfe1
Anne if you run into amy predator larger than a coyote just call it a day. Bears aren't this far south or east. You'll need to worry about racoons and squirrels more. O can't speak to the wild boar situation in Dallas but I don't think they are too prevalent where you're camping. You can always call the park to find out.
vutpakdi
Raccoons and opossums going after your food at night will probably be the biggest concern. We do have some venomous snakes in Texas, but those are pretty easily avoided. Ron
Earthcrosser599
I'm giving serious thought to going to ReaperCon this year. I've gone to GenCons and KublaCons in the past, but this would be my first ReaperCon and the first gaming Con I've been to in several years. I read up on the Warlord and Frozen North books and my evil ankle-biting gnomes are coming along rather nicely (by my standards)in the painting department. How is the Warlord event atmosphere? I've played in competitive Warhammer events and Hardcore HordesMachine events, and I'm looking for something a little more casual and fun-related than I've experienced in GW and PP events. At best I'm going to have less than a dozen games under my belt, and possibly none at all, so I'm not sure it's even worth it to show up if the Warlord scene is anything like the events for other miniature games I've played in the past. Dr.Bedlam
Not only are there no dangerous predators... but another thing I found to be unique about ReaperCon is the lack of gamer funk. Not only do women run free in numbers at ReaperCon, but every single person in the crowd smells like they've bathed lately. RC is the only con I've ever attended where there wasn't at least ONE guy in open gaming whose stench was potent enough to throw its own shadow. First time I thought it was a fluke, but last year, nobody stank then, either. Downright refreshing!
Luethar
I am looking forward to the con. Tickets and hotel bought. Just need the days to tick by! Lue.

Expect that your opponent will be playing to win; it is a tournament, after all. That being said, there is also plenty of friendly advice to be had, and if you wanted to spend the entire con playing Warlord, I'd bet you could probably find players to give you a pick-up game at the drop of a hat on a free table. ~v Edited April 21, 2011 by Shakandara

The people playing in the tourney are playing to win, but even inexperienced players had fun. Also, there are the Warlord based games up front (with fixed forces) run by Tim's crew up front. The games are great fun. One of the ones last year was a Warlord take on Alice in Wonderland. As Vince said, pick up games are pretty easy to find. We had a fun 8 way one on Thursday evening last year. Ron

Earthcrosser599
I'm starting to plan the trip. What airport do people usually show up at? My knowledge of places other than California is very limited.
orcsoul
The "closest" airport is DFW but there's also love field which isn't much (if any) of a longer drive. Love field is where SW Airlines flies into and a few others I'm sure, and everybody else pretty much flies into DFW. That being said, about 90% of everybody who flies in generally comes in to DFW. haldir
If you do the cab route from the airport It was around 80-100 for a trip from DFW to the Best Western. So use that if you don't have a ride or aren't renting a car. At least give you some sorta distance for price range. Never have used Love Field as I've flown only America West & now Frontier airlines to ReaperCon (both stop at DFW). Heisler
Its probably worth checking into the shuttle buses for those trips to the airport and pickup. As I recall the last time I did it round trip was $60 or so. Yes, roundtrip. Much cheaper than a taxi.
Luethar
If you're coming in on Thursday and need a ride, I may be able to accommodate you. I will be enroute Thursday morning and may be able to pick you up if we can coordinate. I should be passing DFW around 10AM Thursday morning. Let me know. Lue.
