Blood Disorders

The results of my blood work came back. I have two mutations that cause rare and potentially fatal blood clotting disorders. I’ve been referred to a perinatal specialist to find exactly which two disorders they are. I don’t know what impact they will have on my overall health. I do know that they are causing severe, occasionally debilitating, stomach and leg pain. I’m calling the specialist to get an appointment monday. I’ll keep you guys updated.

Thrombophilia sucks. My wife has 3 different disorders (2 clotting, 1 bleeding - they don't counteract one another like you'd think), also, and they suck to get treated. Make sure you go see an official hematologist that has experience with whatever disorders they think you have (she has sticky platelets and a protein deficiency - prior to any surgery, they have to give her a few units of platelets, because her do not work right) .

For the one pregnancy, she had to give herself shots of blood thinners to make sure the baby would not have a nasty clot.

Edit - Thrombophilia, not thermophilia.

My mom has multiple myeloma, which is a form of cancer affecting the blood and bones. This is one reason I went inactive as a painter and vanished from the forums for a couple years. I became a caregiver for my entire family, and took her to many of her appointments.

My thoughts are with you, and I hope you get an effective treatment.

Ok so having a genetic birth defect that includes a bleeding disorder I just want to let you know it will be ok. Since my birth in the 70's medical science has jumped ahead exponentially. My one piece pf advice is get a good hematologist. Ones that work in cancer treatment centers are the best. I also suggest that you learn to quit worrying. Worrying will damage you worse than anything you may have. Take it all in stride and you'll be ok. Good luck.
