haldir
Here's to Reapercon, where the women are all far more beautiful than their avatar pictures. Although Haldir still doesn't look anything like his avatar. I can't remember the last time I had as much fun as I did during "Hollywood Squares." At least not with my clothes on. Hey, one of these years I may end up with blonde hair just to throw everyone. Hell one time I came down with a goatee but I shaved like on Friday or Saturday & it made Cutebutpsyco do a doubletake ) I'll agree the 'squares was a riot. Glad I didn't let Dr Bedlem, be the only one to sign up for that one. Heck I was able to pick up the Pathfinder Inner Sea Guide Hardback with my winnings, so thank you Reaper!!! Also, just wanted to say a big thanks to KatieG & Anne for the rides from & to the airport, right there you guys save me well over 200 bucks in cab fares! Thanks to Sonic Mike again for having Sonic on hand. You & the rest of the gang were top notch this year! Thanks to my players in my rpg Hungry are the Dead on Thursday night as well. While I wasn't as prepared as I wanted to be, you guys made for a memorable game. Thanks to Ed, Bryan, Ron, Kit for doing what they do best & to Ghent & Melissa Grady (yeah I remember her name!) in the Boneyard. Epically to Melissa, she was running her butt off but still was as friendly as can be. Thanks guys & gals!! As I said, not sure if I'll be back next year as I may try & go to PaizoCon but you never know...... RM
Daedalus
He still can't get over how people who paint minis think his polished pewter is cool... Because all of you painters are so bloody talented! I am blown away every year by the artistry of what I see displayed, and the skill it took to do it. That said, I AM very pleased that what I did was appreciated and favorably commented upon by so many of you. Thanks! Daedalus
Sonic Mike
Sonic Mike, Thanks for the note. I had no idea that you had this arrangement the way you did. I thought it was just a contract or something. Vegan options can be challenging to create. Vegans and vegetarians differ in that vegans will not consume anything with an animal protein. This includes milk, eggs, dairy, meats, fish, mayonnaise (sorry.. its true)or cheese for some examples. Vegetarians will consume products with eggs and cheese, vegans will not. Mine is a diet for health reasons, not because I feel animals shouldn't die to feed us. I say kill the cow and make it a steak... I just cant eat the steak. The weekend of the con I survived on your tater tots. I think that it would be cost prohibitive for you to invest in a vegan or vegetarian menu for the con. I can just plan accordingly next year. I only mentioned Subway because they do make a vegetarian sandwich as well as meat products for the carnivores. No worries. I can see the fans of the con do appreciate your set up. I did too. I just thought it was worth mentioning. I didn't mean to offend or insult. Thanks for all you do Mike! Lue. No worries at all! I never took any offense, I just want to make it so ReaperCon attracts as many folks as possible and they can spend as much time learning, painting, talking, gaming, and having a good time at the Con rather than driving for sustenance. By the way, I once met a vegetarian who claimed he was a vegetarian not because of his love for animals but because he hated vegetables and wanted to see them suffer more (he was a gamer of course!). Thanks for all the kind words about Sonic but thanks most of all to Reaper for another fun year. See you guys around soon! PS Todd I will work on getting you some Sweet Habanero Sauce.

nytflyr
Mike and his staff always do a great job for the con attendees given that they are working in a temporary setup. Thank you for taking the time and effort to serve us food. Ron PS: My favorite memory of a few cons ago was one of the sonic girls killing zombies with the best of them in the original Reich of the Dead. I was in one of those games, that was awesome... I wonder if we will ever see those rules again...
nytflyr
PS Todd I will work on getting you some Sweet Habanero Sauce. While I would like to get some of that delicious concoction as well, I really don't have any room among all the other bottles of Hot Sauce I have in the house... Artists Wren Posted May 26, 2011 Artists Share Posted May 26, 2011 I'll chime in and agree with the folks who felt this was the best ReaperCon yet. I had a terrific time, and as usual my only regret is what I didn't get to do - the people I didn't get to talk to (or talk to enough), and the games I didn't get to play. Many thanks to all the Reaper team for their hard work. I know it can't be fun to completely turn your workplace upside down to accommodate all of us, and then have to fix it right back up again on Monday. (And they had that done impressively quickly.) Extra thanks for the thematic decorating. It was fun to have a theme for this year's Con, and everyone involved in the decoration really brought that to life. So did all the Con goers who donned costumes. I loved seeing the creativity on display! And thanks again to Sonic Mike and his team for another year of eats provided in challenging circumstances. The addition of grilled cheese sandwiches and salads make a big difference for this vegetarian. And your provision of iced tea helps my brain keep running all Con. paintminion
I will add my thanks to Mike for the great food and great attitude. Those apples were just what I needed! Always fun to get in the Sonic line! And to all the Reaper peeps who took great care of us and worked so hard - you succeeded in making this a great event that we will remember for years to come! Awesome entryway! Thanks as well to all the great students in our classes, and to those who asked for advice. I love being able to help others bring their work up a notch! AND thanks to all the entrants in the painting Competition. It was tough this year, and you guys are getting so good! Guess I should bring my A game next year. :-) Last, a thank you to Greg and his chair. Without him, I think I would never have finished as much painting as I did from the pain. You helped a great deal, and Art says you and he need to talk at Gen Con.
paintminion
... Hair w/Sue was very helpful - highly recommended if your hairdos are looking not quite right. ... Thank you for the shoutout! Now show me some hair!
Dr.Bedlam
I do feel kinda sorry for the Reaper peeps who have to clean up after us. I arrived early each day I was at the con, and I was astonished at the sheer amount of crap I encountered upon walking in each morning. Here's to whoever has to clean all that up! Artists Wren Posted May 27, 2011 Artists Share Posted May 27, 2011 I've attended several small board game conventions in the past of 150-400 people. There's usual a request to the night owls and the early risers to help out by looking around the room as the leave/enter and discarding debris. I pitched in the one morning I was in earlier than most, and saw other people helping out on several occasions, but it wouldn't hurt for us as con goers to remember that this is one of the ways we can help out, and make a conscious effort to clean up not only after ourselves, but also after our fellow attendees that might have been called away unexpectedly or became so overcome with fun they forgot to throw some stuff out. :->
Clever Crow
Had a great time this year. This was my 3rd ReaperCon and I think it was the best. I also want to thank everyone that attended my classes. I had a blast teaching and I hope everyone go a little something out of the experience. Thanks to the entire Reaper Staff. Everyone did a great job!!!! m
haldir
Just wanted to add I love the idea of the veggies/fruit tray in the break room/painting room. I snacked on that darn ole thing all day & felt like I was eating healthy for once in my life. Something to remember for next year. Also, Sonic Mike-- loved that Habanero Sauce myself & I'm not much a Habi' fan. Great stuff!!
Luethar
I love the idea of the veggies/fruit tray in the break room/painting room. I snacked on that darn ole thing all day & felt like I was eating healthy for once in my life. Something to remember for next year. Haldir, There was a fruit and veggie tray???!!! Damn, I was so busy with Pathfinder that I never made it down to the paint area to paint! I would have loved some fruit and veggies. Maybe next year I will bring a few too! Wren, Sadly I cannot eat grilled cheese sandwiches. I am a vegan not vegetarian. No cheese for me! I never saw the salads on the menu. I would have gotten one, two or three! SonicMike, Sounds like you did your job providing all sorts of option. I was apparently the evil customer and didn't read the menu. Wish I would have been more attentive and not prejudicial on the Sonic menu. I was just always assuming Sonic = fast food = non-vegan friendly. Sorry! I look forward to attending next year with these options. Awesome! Lue.
Artists Wren Posted May 29, 2011 Artists Share Posted May 29, 2011 Luethar - I understand that you're a vegan and have very limited food options. I was trying to give Mike some positive feedback for the efforts he's made over the years to improve the selection despite the limitations of catering in a factory. (My first year the only options I had were tater tots and slices of cheese.) I figured some kudos for the steps he has taken might make it easier to contemplate jumping through more hoops for yet another special dietary need. I've also done the just assume and don't ask thing - I missed that the grilled cheese was even available the first year they did it as I just assumed the menu would be the same as the previous year. Next year you can also ask on the forums in advance what is available locally. While Subway doesn't cater the show, there is one within a 5-10 minute drive, and also another sub shop, New York Subs. There is also a Jason's Deli which offers a lot of salad options and a few sandwiches that could be made without cheese, and a big Chinese buffet/Mongolian grill place. A bit further away but not ridiculously so is a Thai restaurant, and there are probably other ethnic options that locals would know more about. Perhaps most conveniently of all, there's a super Kroger just down the street from Reaper. It has some ready to eat deli, soup and sushi offerings, but there is not a ton of stuff for us in that section. It also has a large natural foods and produce section where you could grab prepared veggies and fruits, or perhaps talk to Reaper about whether you can use the staff microwave to heat up a frozen dinner now and then. I understand the annoyance of living with a special needs diet, believe me! And it's reasonable for us to make our needs known so people can try to work with them. But it's also a reality that they are our needs, and there's only so much we can reasonably expect others to do about them. Although Reaper provides meals and transportation for the artists they bring in, one of the reasons I rent a car every year is so that I can take care of my own food needs if my schedule or preferences don't fit into what's been organized for the group.
