hey Reaper people...

after a nine month break to move to Mexico, and get my surf shop runnin' smoothly(check out the new website: http://www.quiverito.com/ ), i'm back with a new mini...

it takes a while to get back in the swing of slappin' paint, and i really feel rusty...

my photography has definitely taken a step backward...

for this commission i was asked to use the studio scheme, and take it to the next level...

not sure if i pulled it off, but the addition of a Voodoworx.UK display base definitely helps the presentation...

anyway, here he is, giant hammers and all, with a face only a mother could love...

thanks guys...

@JimL: an 8 month break is no fun when you eat, sleep, and drink painting...

it feels good to shake some of the rust off...

glad you like the bike...

it needs some serious work, but is based around a vintage 1972 schwinn frame...

all the spokes (of which there are about 250 in each rim), cranks, are twisted like wrought iron, and chromed...

should be really awesome when i finish it, and an Indian motorcycles ornament on the front fender will be the finishing touch (though that one piece will probably cost as much as the rest of the bike)...

some close-ups of this mini will be up in a couple of days...

cheers

Love the Reds in this piece. Very vibrant and shaded well. The basing is nice. You said that is a pre-made base? Well, I am sure you still had to paint it and the painting of it really sets it apart. Great Job all around.

On another note: How are you liking the surf shop down there? I have not been surfing of the coast of Mexico - Is it pretty decent? I have surfed Hawaii, Austrailia, Japan, Phillipines, and on both Coasts here in the states, but have never gotten a chance to go south of the boarder. I have not been able to pick up a board in almost 25 years now, I sure do miss it.

thanks Jim...

glad you like the reds...

that, along with black, seems to be a color that i end up having to use on almost every mini i'm comissioned to paint...

i try to do something new with it each time, to see what i like best, what works, and doesn't, and how different tones can convey different moods...

the base is pre-made, from VoodooworxUK...

it's a one man show in Englad, and Wil Davis, the owner, is one of my favorite painters

check Wiltrichs on Coolmini...

he liked my take on the base so much he is going to use the pics as an alt. scheme for the website...

i basically just copied the tiles on my floor:)...

as for the shop, i'm lovin' it...

we had a good winter with some nice swells, and hurricane season is starting now, so it should be a good summer for waves...

i grew up in Redondo Beach surfing, and have travelled the whole world chasing waves...

Mexico is the best for cheap living, and tropical weather...

after having lived in Oaxaca and Mazatlan, this is my third spot along the Pacific coast that i have lived...

it's beautiful and surfable all the way along the coast...

if you ever get the urge to come down, drop me a line and i can set you up with the apartment we rent out upstairs...

time to get back to work on the next project now;)...

cheers
