Great stuff! Now I know who to bug when I want inside details on studio schemes! ::P: While I've never painted it, Retribution's armor seems to be a difficult thing to manage. The white roundness of everything would likely give me fits. You make it look easy!

Presumably you've been working on other Wrath releases? Can't wait to see em!

I am working on new releases but I can't say what books they are coming from mainly because I have no idea myself. They just give me stuff to paint and I paint it ::):

If you want studio paint recipes they are all in the back of the Warmachine, Hordes and Faction books. That's your best reference as they have step by step how to's for everything.

Congratulations! Nice work keeping things smooth on those big curving white surfaces.

I think that more contrast on the head and upper chest would help, since the head is blending visually with the back-spike, and the face isn't holding my interest -- I can't pick out any features in the curving silver part. Are there "eyes" of any kind?

It might even help to make the area behind the head, including the back-spike, slightly darker, so the head could stand out more clearly when photographed from this angle.

(Then again, maybe it's just that the photo is washed out, or maybe the art director is dictating that your shading on Scyrah-faction whites must go only so deep?)

Thank you Derek, and to your question--yes. I had it a lot darker. Ron wanted me to go lighter. So I kept going. And yes the studio director at PP is named Ron. I'm surrounded by Rons, Eds and Matts!

@Bumble B--Yep, that's me.

I've met Privateer-Ron at Gen Con and he seemed like a very friendly fellow, but I imagine that he and the other managers at Privateer strive to maintain a definite "brand consistency" for each faction. Once you've proven your worth to the company, you'll probably get more say on issues related to painting. :;):

Thanks for sharing.

congrats on the new job, Meg...

the jack definitely fits the look of the rest of the line...

how do you like the switch to P3 paints???

make Ron laugh sometime, Meg...

his laugh has always cracked me up ever since we were at North Pole High School in Alaska, 20 years ago...

@dks:there is a "brand consistency" throughout all the factions...

the only major change that has happened since Mike Mcvey first laid down the style and schemes has been the intro of the P3 line, which has a nice subtle unexpected tone in most of the colors...

in the early days (about 8 years ago now) when i started painting for PP we used GW paints for all the schemes...

there was a lot of custom mixing to get the tones that are now present in pre-mixed form with P3...

since then, the only thing that we see come from the studio that is a bit out-of-the-box compared to the standard army book paintjob are the extreme sculpts...

kind of like the NMM showcase minis that the 'Eavy Metal guys get to do now versus the standard box art/army book mini...

one thing that i was told a lot back in the day, was to make it "good enough", as there are so many releases, and the look should be consistent throughout...

it always seemed to me that the studio job was awesome because there was always work that needed doing, and you are getting paid to paint cool minis, but it isn't an outlet for creative freedom...

congrats again, Meg, and best of luck to you...

cheers

Thanks Jah.

I try to get Ron to laugh or smile as much as possible. I love both of them on him and he doesn't do it often enough. In fact his head looked like it was about to explode this morning.

I've been using P3 paints for a while now and love them.
