Now I've painted many Klockes in my day, and after spending time painting Ms. Blackruby here I can honestly say that this is my favorite Klocke sculpt I've ever painted. Just an exceptional, fantastic job on the sculpt with absolutely everything from the pose with the cocked head and reveal of the leg to the crazy amount of detail everywhere just really blew me away the whole time I was painting her.

It's been really hot here lately (for months) and needed to look at something a little frosty since the heat here is getting old so I put her in a snow world. Painted her disposition and contrivances to help portray her in an icy, boreal light.

The base was sculpted from lab stone as an experiment in using the stuff to quickly sculpt a scenic base. Took about an hour, I'll do more with the stuff as I'm fond of the way it turned out in the end.

Wow....just wow...I love this mini and yours is by far my favorite version of it. Everything from the cool colors to the expression on her face, to the freehand is just perfect. You are solidifying your spot in my top 5 painters very quickly.

Oh wow....

Yeah, I agree, this is my favorite take on this mini so far. She's dark and moody, but sensual and rich. Her face is beautifully done, full of expression. You achieved a perfect balance of red and green. It's so easy to make that come out looking Christmasy. I love the purple glazes in the shadows. The occasional splashes of clear strong color (blue and red gems, yellowish green on her sleeves, the center front of the bodice, gold trim here and there) keep your eye dancing without seeming out of place. Nice warm to cool lighting shift from the front to the back... The base work doesn't disappoint either. Very well done!

The only thing I wish for would be a little more bright color on her face to draw me up. I keep focusing on her amazing dress and the base. Perhaps some brightly colored gems in the roll of her head piece or clear red lips?

Your work just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys,

Jen, you've got the science of commenting down to an art. I think about that kind of thing while painting and by the time I'm done I've forgotten about most of it but your words bring to mind that kind of thought. There really is alot of thought that goes along with spending so many hours with a particular piece.. You've really got an eye for observation and thanks for taking the time to speak on what you notice like that.

Very nice Sean. Yes, I long for the good ol' days of DHL releases like this one... Your version is VERY well done! Swirl Master strikes again... Love the flesh tones! Looks like she could walk right of that base and poke you in the eye with that little pointed wand.

Perhaps someday Mr. Klocke will return and produce more beauties like this one for the DHL that has, over the past 2 years, IMO, gone into a deep slumber.

Wake me up before you go-go... Too bad Werner is flyin' solo.

Hey guys thank you very much and there will definitely be more coming Warlady, for sure.

Josh, you've got to remember to wear a helmet when you click these threads man!

SK, nice rhyme there about WK bud I laughed pretty good at that! (and yes I'm old enough to actually remember that song it's not lost on me hahaha) I agree with you as I'm sure you probably know. I guess looking on the bright side of what you said there's always a bunch of Klocke's from the back catalog to paint he did do a good deal of work when he was most active sculpting here. Alot of stuff yet to paint for me at least, in the queue from him.

Very nice colors, mood, detail picking-out, freehand, glinting shiny surfaces. I like the various permutations of greens, purples, reds, and browns.

Your shading on her forehead seems a bit harsh to me -- it makes her look like she has a beetle-brow. With her white hair, she could be old and therefore have a wrinkled forehead (or her quizzical expression might be furrowing her brow), but even then I would expect any wrinkles to be very fine lines on an otherwise smooth surface.

I might also darken the shading on the stone part of the base, especially the recessed joints in the "ashlar masonry" face. The shadows on Hannah herself are nice and deep, but those on the base aren't. I know (and you know), it's good to use less contrast on a base so it doesn't detract from the figure, but the shadows on this base could still go a little darker.

Thanks for sharing. Always good to see what you're up to.
