Ferox
Good clean work, excellent colour choices.
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted September 22, 2011 Moderator Share Posted September 22, 2011 This is looking really good, keep it up. Can't tell if your done with the skin yet. If your not done I would like to suggest either more shadow, or mor highlight, whichever kind of tone you want for this mini. Everything looks good so far though. She's just base coating so far. We start the Highlighting Lessons today or tomorrow...mwhahahaha.
Boussole
I'm so slow~ >____< It's probably not helping any that she's a super detailed mini either~ I'm pleased with my colors so far but I'm just agonizing over what to do her shoes in. I'm sort of against bringing in any sort of brown/leathery shades as I don't feel that it fits quite right, but I'm not sure what to use instead. I suppose we'll see when I get to painting today. Orionjp
Gotcha, your doing great, and being slow can be good, I'm a freaking snail when I paint. Its not speed its technique. She is looking great.
frogimus
Slow is good. Everytime I get in a hurry, the figure usually ends up in the Simple Green. Very good first mini. You seem a natural at it.
MamaGeek
Looking good, especially for a beginning painter. I'm sure having Andy there to coach you is a big help! The hair higlights are good, but the shadows have lost their darkness. Unless you want her to look like a gray-haired old lady, you'll need to go back with very thinned shade color to bring it back into the range of looking black. Overall, though, excellent work! Keep it coming!
Boussole
No highlights or shadows there yet~ I'm still just slowly base coating everything so all of those variances are a trick of the light. She'll be much lighter in color once I'm done and her hair should end up being nearly white. ^____^ Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I get so excited seeing all of the amazing minis some of you have painted and I hope to be as talented some day. I've just got to keep practicing and get a little faster each time~
Orionjp
Please, don't focus on speed, focus on skill and technique, if you get faster great, but don't make speed your focus unless you make a career of doing contract work.
Boussole
Oh, of course not~ I just feel very painfully, unecessarily slow doing the base coat. I'll certainly take my time with all of the shading and highlighting. I just think that i could pick up the pace a bit on this first bit of painting~
Boussole
I finished my basecoat! Huzzah! I'm pretty happy with how it came out, though there are definitely a few places that need touching up. On to highlights! Dun dun duuuuuuuun~
Boussole
I've always enjoyed highlighting when i draw digitally so I'm glad that i liked it just as much with paint~ ^____^ I only got two levels of highlights on her hair done today so there's not much to look at, but i like how it's going so far. There's definitely going to be many more levels to the hair before i'm satisfied with it, but that's alright with me~ The first level of highlights is 1/2 Twilight Blue and 1/2 Snow Shadow. The second level is just Snow Shadow.
Boussole
Highlights on the hair are going well and hopefully TaleSpinner will post some pictures tonight~ I've gotten the third level of highlights down which is a mixture of Snow Shadow and Ghost White. There was a bit of an accident today and Nashwa's ponytail popped right off in the middle of painting. Despite surprising me quite a bit, it's incredibly amusing as I had been speculating on how much easier things would be to paint had i not already atached all of that hair~ Now I'll actually get to find out! Ddot
wow. Now I want to pick this mini and paint her. 1. I love the contrast with the skin and cloth, and the blue on the staff ties everything together. Also, good call on not wanting to do the shoes in a brown leather*- always a chance it would be to close to skintone for contrast. (*unless of course you did ;) ) 2. I've been doing this for 8 years+ and haven't really gotten faster. If anything I got slower, but started painting cleaner and smoother as I did. I wouldn't worry about speed starting out; just learn to do things the right way. 3. Keep up the good work.

MamaGeek
It's coming along very nicely! I'll often leave the separate parts of a mini apart until they're painted, if I think they'll get in the way. Sometimes you have to touch up a bit after attaching, but it's better than painting it together. Lessons learned, eh?
