dks
I like your bold color choices, as a twist on the figure's insect theme. Do you have any space to set up a dedicated photo-shooting area, where you can control the lighting and the background better? Can your camera zoom in closer? It is tough to see the quality of your painting when the figure is just a small area of the photo (though you could fix that by cropping the image) and when the lighting and background are uneven. If we saw the figure more closely, we could give you more specific praise or suggestions. Anyway, glad to hear that you're surviving the blizzard. JimL
Try using a desk lamp for more light. What I can see looks good. You must be in western Maine, only a few inches at my house. Rode out the storm in Rockland where it rained all day. Nice to see a fellow Mainer here.
dks
Hey thanks for the advice! how's this?... Better! As @JimL wrote, getting a little more light on the figure when you take photographs would help. It also looks like the figure is in front of where the camera is focussing. (When I am taking photos of my figures, I set the manual focus, take the first one, and look at the image on the camera, specifically to see what part of the ground is sharpest. If the figure is in focus, I take the rest of the shots. If it is out of focus, I change the focal distance or move my camera forward or back, take another shot, and check again.) And I prefer to shoot with a background that is a midtone, so it lets the highlights of the figure stand out. With a white background, even a bright figure like this one can often look dark by comparison. Anyway, again, nice work with the color choices and the stripes!
