Couvs 188 Report post Posted November 7, 2017 Hey there. This caught my eye as I started looking for ideas to make an icy base for the Frost wyrm Bones mini I recently finished painting. Although I found that brand of product at Michael's the other day they specifically did not have that crackle paint. The closest I could find was this Art Minds chalk crackle medium (see attached pic). Is this a close enough substitute? After reading the label I'm not so sure. I did discover after the fact that I can order the crackle paint in the OP on Amazon but I wanted to ask about this one as well. Thanks!
pinkymadigan 4886 Report post Posted November 7, 2017 Hmm. "Artminds crackle medium" returns a lot of results on Youtube, but most are irrelevant. Here's one example I could find, I don't know that it will work quite right, though, based on what I'm seeing here. But obviously different surfaces react differently, so no way to really know without testing.
Couvs 188 Report post Posted November 7, 2017 hm my best bet is probably going to be just ordering the exact stuff from the tutorial from amazon. fortunately it's reasonably priced and has free shipping in Canada.
NomadZeke 56820 Report post Posted November 10, 2017 Oddly enough I was JUST looking for this tutorial...
Reaperbryan 21 Report post Posted November 10, 2017 The crackle varnish you show there should work more or less the same. Experimentation is part of learning, and learning is part of mastery
SamuraiJack 22303 Report post Posted November 10, 2017 There is usually some crackle medium in the craft paint area too
MonkeySloth 9148 Report post Posted May 12, 2018 (edited) Hey all. Pulled one of these old bases out of storage to see how it held up after all this time (about 6 and a half years), since I was looking at using this medium for a project, and it still looks just as good as it did back when I made this tutorial. I added a quick picture to the end of the second post as well as below this sentence. Edited May 12, 2018 by MonkeySloth 9

MonkeySloth 9148 Report post Posted May 13, 2018 Same. I figure if it can last this long it's going to be quite some time till it yellows if ever.
