Stubbdog
So, Warwick got me thinking about lists with assassins in them. I have had a lot of success lately with Zalash, the Darkreach Assassin. But, he is an elite, meaning that he can be used in a troop full of protecting soldiers. I wanted to have some fun and design a list or two around the solo assassins... Those that have to stand by their own whit and toughness to survive on the battlefield. So, this is challenge to see if you can come up with a fun and also competitive 1000 pt build that is built around a solo assassin. Here are my first two lists... Built around The Dwarf known as Snorri. Dwarves - 1000 points Troop 1 Logrim Battlefury Bear Rider x 4 Troop 2 Fulumbar Ironhammer Berserker x 3 Mancatcher x 2 Troop 3 Gargram Heavyhand Piercer x 2 Halberdier Troop 4 Snorri Oathbreaker - Hammer of the Mountain God, Mithril Armor Troop 5 Earth Elemental Troop 6 Dire Bear Equip Luck Stone -------------------------------------- 6 troops + 1 spy 18 models (47 DTs) -------------------------------------- -------------------------------------- Dwarves - 994 points Troop 1 Logrim Battlefury Bear Rider x 4 Troop 2 Fulumbar Ironhammer Berserker x 3 Mancatcher Warrior x 3 Troop 3 Gargram Heavyhand Piercer x 2 Halberdier Troop 4 Snorri Oathbreaker Hammer of the Mountain God Mithril Armor Troop 5 Earth Elemental Equip Luck Stone ------------------------------ 5 troops +1 spy 19 models (48 DTs) Both lists revolve around beating things up with all the front line, and then finish them off with the 'mightified' Snorri. Warwick
A whole list built around one model? I've got some ideas to enhance my Assassin abilities, but not an entire list. I'll try Raseri with an Assassin Blade next, see what happens there. I wonder what Assassin Blade on all my legal models would do? Nothing? Painful victory? Only time will tell. I'm firmly sticking to Mercs for a while.
Stubbdog
Well, here is a variant of a list I made a while back for the Mercs, using the Change of Heart Doctrine that I have only played once, but I remember it being a lot of fun to play. Mercs - 1000 points Troop 1 Boris Mingla - Assassin's Blade Sokar's Prophets x 3 (from Nefsokar) Minotaur x 3 Okuran Troop 2 Haranobu - Assassin's Blade Sokar's Prophets x 2 (from Nefsokar) Minotaur x 3 Okuran x 2 Troop 3 Raseri, Raging Barbarian - Assassin's Blade -------------------------------------- 3 troops +2 tacticians +1 spy 17 models (47 DTs) The overall concept is Prophets can bless and/or Ironskin models left and right then send them into battle. If they were your target, then the now DR2 Minotaurs can rush attack cleave stuff left and right. And the main three use their assassin blades to the chew up the rest. wildbill
With your second list, drop Logrim and the Luck Stone, and add in Ursula. I think the Bear Riders would be better served by her as a leader. It has also been my experience that the Hammer of the Mountain God doesn't seem to work out as well as advertised. But, that may be just me. Good luck with those lists! I don't think there are enough models in it to support Snorri doing anything really awesome with his Assassin SA, but hey, prove me wrong! Stubbdog
Here is another off the wall idea. I can think of several lists that would obliterate this one, but at the same time for a regular gaming night when your opponrnt thinks you are gonna bring jelly donuts, you can bring a little mustard instead. Nefsokar - 998 points Troop 1 Neb'nesew Ne'pet - Familiar Netikerti - Familiar Reborn Khamsin Dervish x 4 Khamsin Lancer x 2 Troop 2 Tariq Fatima - Staff of Sokar, Familiar Ammat Devourer x 2 Anubis Guard x 2 Troop 3 Khathan - Magic Ranged Weapon Troop 4 Sokar's Avatar ---------------------------------- 4 troops +2 spies 20 models (44 DTs) The list is really built around the Avatar, but Kathan would be good for head hunting from the edges. Overall the concept is, first turn Neti summons some minions to add more fodder to the table. Fati can either toss a divine vigor or two on the avatar or a vigor on the avatar and might on the reborn while the troops hold the line. Then second turn (or whenever the enemy is in the right place) send the avatar into the fray, rampaging away.. Then use Netikerti to cast exploding sacrifice on the Avatar. Rushing in the troops afterwards to pick off the wounded. Then next activation have Fatima cast resurrection, use the staff free casting of lay on hands, and Tariq also cast cure 1 to have the avatar back up a couple of points good to go for another round. Meanwhile Nebby uses lots of lightning on anything that comes to try and stop this process, while Kathan is keeping on the edges, focus and fire on whatever she can. Two horsies to be a little speed to go after any enemy archers or casters to keep them from foiling this plan too early.
