GlenP
This is a Reaper piece painted with Reaper MSP acrylics. The base is a craft store thread spool with one end removed and covered in Aves Apoxie Sculpt. Qs and Cs welcome.
themudhead
I love the texture you have developed in the cloak. To help sell that I would blend the browns in front a lot more with glazes (very thin paint used as a cover and not to get in cracks)... Make the rest smooth and the cloak will be lots more rough looking. Really push that nice texture! I'm stealing that idea myself at some point. Nice! Also, I would darken the beard slightly more and then pick out some shiny parts on the tops to highlight with the white. It will still look old and grey but it would also look shiny this way. P.S. The stone on the base could use some more highlight/shadow love. ;)

GlenP
Thanks for the feedback everyone, I appreciate it! Whatever I did on the cloak was likely accidental. It has big, bold folds like it's a thick cloth and I just painted it with broad bands of color that was only slightly thinned. In person, the paint layers have a grainy quality to them and that gives the effect of rough cloth. I don't think we would see actual threads in scale. The brown areas are 'cuir bouilli' - basically a boiled leather armor. Since he's a ranger, I figured he wouldn't be running around the hills and forests in clanking metal armor that announced his presence to everyone. The leather is supposed to have a dull and somewhat rough quality to it. It's a bit worn and not very smooth, but it's not suede-like either. That's my story and I'm sticking to it... Cheers, Glen

GlenP
Thanks! I get a lot of practice on leather since my primary figure painting efforst are directed at 54mm medieval foot figures. As for the face... well, there's not much of it. The cowl and hair covers most of it. The nose and cheek bones are the only things to really highlight; everything else is in deep shadow. The eyes are painted, but these are further shadowed by the bushy eyebrows. I am glad you liked it. Slainte. Glen
