MiniCannuck
Tonight is my gaming night. I priced out the flight/hotel/rental car package. It's not too bad. However, if I can convince 2 of my group to come with me, it will be under $500 per person for a trip from Wed-Mon. Fingers crossed that I can be REALLY convincing! MiniCannuck
Well, it looks like I failed to convince anyone else to go to ReaperCon with me. I can't blame them. Most of the guys are already committed to GenCon and the HMWS conventions in PA this year. There is only so much money and vacation time to go around. So, I hope that I can meet some people down there who are also visiting Dallas and want to check out some of the local sites too. I can't wait to see the Reaper facility and do the seminars/play games but I'll be damned if I'm going to fly 6 hours and only see the inside of a building! This leads me to a few more questions. The only event schedule I can find so far was for the seminars of 2009. It looks like the events are from 9am to 6pm each day. Does that mean nothing is going on at night. If so, do people organize things to do outside the con. I'm not sure what there is to do in the area but I'm hoping that it will involve a few good BBQ places and beer. Happy new year everyone - I look forward meeting everyone. I especially hope that two of my favourite artists Jen Haley and Anne Foerster are there. There DVD set was fantastic. Plus I think that both of them were absolutely adorable in a non sexist way of course!
vutpakdi
The painting and sculpting classes do run from 9 AM to 6 PM or so. There are games organized afterwards, but there are fewer formal events. In terms of dinners, people tend to group up with others and head off to the local hang outs. There are certainly places for BBQ and beer. Denton is a suburb of Dallas proper, so other sites are a little ways away, though downtown Denton has a nice feel to it (and has some local hangouts nearby). One of the pinned topics has some suggestions for non con activities, though I'm not sure how many people partake of them other than dinner. Luethar
Mini, The classes go from 10-6 or so, but I know I didnt leave the facility until like midnight each night. There was a lot of tabletop gaming going on that did not halt at 6PM. It really is a good time. Everyone there is friendly and always have time to stop and talk to you. It is a small con as far as cons go, but I cannot believe the amount of people that circulated through the con last year. Hopefully its just as big this year. Lue. haldir
Like other have said, you can stay until they kick you out, ha ha. Heck I've been there when ReaperBryan has shut off all the lights & locks the doors. Like others also have said it's a smaller con but its also one of the most friendliest ones out there. Just kick back & immerse yourself in all things that is Reaper for 4 days really. RM
MiniCannuck
Thanks for all the input. If the friendliness of the forum is any indication, I'm sure I'll have a great time. So, if I'm understanding things right, the seminars are during the day and games go on at night? Sounds pretty good to me though I will need to get out and see a bit of Dallas since I've never been there before. Kevin
vutpakdi
So, if I'm understanding things right, the seminars are during the day and games go on at night? The seminars are during the day. The games are during the day and into the night. Last year. the Warlord tourney was on Friday and Saturday. Ron
MiniCannuck
Happy new year everyone. Well, I'm officially booked. I'll be in Dallas may 16 at 3pm and leaving Monday at noon. I got a rental car so if anyone needs a ride around that time, I'm happy to offer. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and playing some games. Here's a question. I say a dungeon crawl event at GenCon this year that looked great. Is there anything like that happening at this con? I'm not sure if this was run by someone from the area. See everyone soon, Kevin
haldir
Dungeon Crawls will be ran at the Con. It's one of the "mainstay" games for the Con. Glad to see your coming down for the con. It was 2005 when I first made my trip to Texas for my first Con of any kind. I've been back every year since.
Evilmonkey
I haven't seen it asked but what is the average cost to get into the con? Badge fee if you will. I read that tournaments and such were free to enter but seminars cost something, but I have yet to see anything on the cost just to get in. If anyone remembers or has a theory... haldir
It's around 40 for a 4 day badge & a shirt. Classes generally are 25 or so, unless there is a special event class then it will list whatever it costs. Gaming like rpgs & dungeon crawls are free to play, just show up. I'm not a tourney player so I couldn't comment on that part.
fieldarchy
I'm hoping to make it for Friday and Saturday at the least. Would be nice to see my Reaper Peeps. I miss y'all!
haldir
Well since January/February is when I usually get this things going for my RCon trip, did a little shopping today. Booked my overnight hotel in Boise, & also booked my stay at Best Western. I also bought my 1 way ticket to Dallas, cost me 5 bucks . Since this is probably my last RCon trip for awhile I decided to redeem my air miles with Frontier Airlines & I had enough for a 1 way trip, the 5 bucks is the tax. Now when I get my tax return or maybe on a week where I'm not strapped for cash I'll purchase my ticket back home (NOTE TO SELF: Don't forget!!! ). Looking forward to seen everyone & meeting new people as well. RM
