ixminis
I figured that since both miniatures are Reaper figures I'd post my entry into Iron Painter 8, Round 1. Each round is two weeks. I did not use the whole two weeks, I spent about a week figuring out how I'd line the piece up to the theme. Hey, I finished, so I'm happy! Enjoy!
ixminis
Hrm, I just noticed that the forum has re-scaled the image and things don't look so hot... if this doesn't draw any commentary, I'll change the image...
nytflyr
click the image, it opens it full size, and it looks good :)
Da Matt
I love that the hedge clipper is in there too. I can't remember what the commercial was for (maybe home insurance) but several years ago they had one where a guy got the hedge clipper put on his hand because he couldn't lift the chainsaw and Bruce Campbell chased him off at the end. This is going to bug me all day now, and you may not have even meant to do that. I really like the piece though great setup on the layout. Any chance of a picture form the side so we can see the zombie a bit better? I like the grime from the street creeping over the edge of the base too. The store front looks a little clean for as much dirt that is blown against it though. Enough rambling from me, great job.
Stubbdog
This one has nothing to do with your piece specifically, but overall I noticed that like 60% of the entries for round 1 seemed to be people with chainsaws... at least yours was one of the few that were incorporated into a scene. Although you didnt give any close ups of your zombie. As far as critiques go, I have done the IP before so I know how tough it can be to get stuff done in the time alotted. And I know your level of painting. So, I know you will not be too offended when I say that this was not up to your normal level that I have seen. Overall, the thing I noticed is that my eyes are continually drawn away from your models and to the building. I think you will make it thru to round two past the scrubs in your group, but you will need to step it up when you get there.
Mercius
I like it a lot, but agree with Stubdog that it wasn't up to your normally very high standard. It is still phenomenal though and a work to be proud of. I think the bright yellow in the building keeps pulling my eye away from the gritty realistic scene going on outside....maybe something to keep in mind for round 2. Moderator TaleSpinner Posted March 6, 2012 Moderator Share Posted March 6, 2012 I like the way that she is only looking at the zombie out of the corner of her eye, implying that there is a much larger force or threat off scene that we can't see. Nice.
ixminis
Yup, y'all have hit the points that i didn't budget enough time for. The re-visit will include a much more beat up and graffitti covered wall. A complete store name "Ace Hardw-" or "Chuck's Hardw-". The signs would be freehanded. The grime would be on TOP of the fliers. I would've cleaned the chainsaw up tremendously... I would've had a demo stand setup for the chain-saw since they wouldn't normally be gassed up in a window display.... er the graffitti would be survivor messages such as: store fully looted, safe haven on oak & sherrill, stuff like that. No problems on the commentary... Definitely a warm up and I'd like to tighten my game up if I make it to the next round. If not, it was still an improvement over my last IP performance, eh?
