Bones You'd Like To See

I want Reaper to buy the miniature lines from Global Games Legions of Steel and make them in Bones.

Especially the Infranites and the U.N.E., including the Colossi.

And while I'm wishing, The Brotherhood, Cybertronic, Capitol and Bauhaus from Warzone.

Just as long as any of the Warzone sculpts are either the original Mark Copplestone sculpts, or the MUCH LATER sculpts (circa 2nd Edition).

Some of the Heartbreaker sculpts were painful to behold. Their 25mm "Mutant Chronicles" Valkyries were pretty decent, but then the Brotherhood Valkyries and Etoiles Mortant, for instance, for Warzone 1st Edition were ridiculously proportioned. (After my order of Heartbreaker Valkyries came in ... I ended up fielding my old Mutant Chronicles 25mm Valkyries as proxies.) By the time Warzone 2nd Edition came out, they finally got their act together on the minis.

I wouldn't mind seeing some "retro-futuristic" sci-fi sculpts, Warzone or not. I've grown out of the need to have ginormous shoulderpads on everything, but I still liked the WWI / WWII vibe to many of the troop types in that game. (Alas, during the brief 54mm Mutant Chronicles "revival," they seemed to drop that aspect of the aesthetic, going for a more generic look.)

I love the armor-and-robes look of the Brotherhood; it's one reason why I've picked up a few Warmachine Protectorate forces even though I don't play the game. In Warzone/MC I like the gas-masks-and-greatcoats look of the Imperial Trenchers, the Bauhaus Ducal Militia, and the Capitol Rangers (the last going for more of a "futuristic cowboy" look than WWI).

While I'm shooting for pie-in-the-sky here, I think Reaper ought to buy up Rackham's AT-43 molds and masters, and make unpainted vehicle and troop kits. ;)

...

Back to something SOMEWHAT more realistic, I think it'd be great to have a figure that captures the "retro-futuristic" look, in the form of a SCARY RETRO-FUTURISTIC GERMAN-ISH TROOPER. Primary factors involved:

* Needs a gas mask with goggles -- the sort of thing where you might paint those goggles glowing red or green for extra intimidation factor.

* Needs a German-style helmet.

* Needs a greatcoat. It's just not cool enough without the greatcoat.

* Needs a weapon that has WWII design cues in some fashion -- not overly "super-sci-fi."

* No humongous shoulderpads; no power armor. (Some body armor is fine, but let's not go overboard.)

* Chronoscope-scaled; it won't be intimidating if he looks shrimpy compared to the next guy.

I could envision using a figure like this as "megacorporate security" for some dystopian cyberpunk future, or, depending on how I paint it up, weird-science troops for a dieselpunk setting or "Reich of the Dead," or villain minions for a pulp campaign.

GW's Death Korps of Krieg pretty much sewed that up bar the weapons. An affordable version of those would be great, perhaps something to fit in with the not-Suckerpunch ladies in the Chronoscape range.

The Lutherans from the tribes of earth in Mutant Chronicles had a similar look but wore kilts, and their 'gas mask'was a genetically modified face.

I'd like to see the Warlord line be converted over to Bones starting with the basic soldiers. Keeping these essential soldiers cost low would allow players to build their armies up faster, allow players to start multiple armies, and make it easier for new and younger players to get into the game. For example, my brother just started a Crusader army. One of the basic soldiers he uses are Templar Knights. The official Warlord model SKU 14377 costs $4.99. He substituted in from the Bones line Garrick the Bold SKU 77008 which only costs $1.99 and is the exact same sculpt. So, he can get two Bones for the cost of one Warlord figure. That is some pretty significant savings.

I second (or third or fourth) the call for the Warlord troops in Bones. Going beyond that, I'd love to see a Warlord KS that does the basic troops for each faction, and adds 2-3 more alternate sculpts for the basic soldiers.

I have several friends I could get to play Warlord, if I provide them a basic fighting force. I can't afford to in metal, I could in Bones.

Ok so I'm totally behind this, but be aware that you can put together a Necropolis and Kargir army that are nearly entirely Bones once the KS ships. (I detail them here.)

Of course with 2 forces that can get a "beginer" force together from Bones it would be nice to do that for the other forces.

(Re: Retro-futuristic / dieselpunk Germanic trooper dudes.)

I didn't think of those right away, but I've actually painted up several of those ... for someone else who can afford to spend far more money on miniatures than even I do. (The theme was "muddy trenches, planks, barbed wire, sandbags, and more mud" for the base decor, and I ended up designating one lucky trooper with an exposed sole as my "boot-stomper" for getting the appropriate trampled-upon effect. But I digress.) A less-expensive option would be nice. For other figures and images that almost get this look, I'd also think of the Schocktrupper (sp?) from Tannhauser (nice DESIGN, but not affordable in quantity). I have a bunch of "Greatcoat Shock Troopers" from Wargames Factory, but once I put them together and compared them to other models, I couldn't escape that their proportions are very much "1990s Rogue Trader era" and look rather goofy compared to Reaper minis.

Anyway, if I could get just ONE cheap Bones trooper of this sort, it would be great if he's in some sort of "rifle in one hand, other hand pointing" action pose, rather than "hugging rifle fused to the body." Either that, or have the "holding rifle in both hands" pose, but make it a SEPARATE PIECE that I attach. That way, I could have a lot more freedom in doing conversions to turn several copies of this ONE basic figure into the bulk of a fighting force.

If he were holding a rifle in one hand away from the body, I could probably trim and swivel around and make another one who's holding his rifle close to the body. For another figure, I could replace the rifle and pointing hand with a saber & pistol combo for a squad leader type (to follow the old Warzone model), strap some sort of specialist backpack on his back to designate a communications officer or medic, etc. I've got plenty of "bitz" leftover from converting Imperial Guard forces, that I could do a few mods for variety.

Plus, if this guy isn't too "high-tech" looking, he could be a great base for "Reich of the Dead" Kroid troops -- just remove the gas mask and stick a skull in there instead, and make a few gouges to look like "zombie damage."

...

Re: Lutherans: Ah yes! I still have my Dark Eden forces. Painting up my Lutheran force required me to first tackle the fine art of painting in PLAID. (Argh!) In a way, if only they had noses and mouths (or some conveniently-obscuring facemasks), they looked as if they could've blended in as another troop type for Imperial. Sadly, these were all from Heartbreaker's "super-chunky" period, so they look very cartoonish by today's standards.

Both of the Goroloth, they are awesome and I needss them

A newly sculpted basilisk, I want it pudgy and bulldog-esque, quite solid

A larger and more imposing cockatrice

Cyclopes, maybe with a weapon swap, I like the sculpt a lot (02953)

Demogorgon/Demonic Lasher, I need more demons and don't want to afford any of the big ones in metal

Derro, new sculpts or what is available in metal already

Hey I said this 4 months ago, but I didn't use the cool latin. Guess those were the words of summoning.

Truth is while my wallet wants every mini in Bones I'm ok with a lot of minis staying metal, especially hero type human models (as long as they are around $8US). What I really want in Bones is 3 sculpts for things I want 9+ of, orcs, goblins, bugbears, zombies, skeletons, gnolls (fitting easily on 25mm bases), and so on in medium and smaller figures. Then I want large models like the ogres, trolls & so on, again 2-3 sculpts around the same size. I love being able to afford large models (we'll see for the gargantuan dragons once we have an RRP), but mostly I want things I need a lot of in Bones.

Troops for armies, makes armies affordable.

Mooks for RPGs, means I can spend more on bosses & PCs in general.

So while a part of me says "yes everything" I'm also ok with most of the product staying metal.

I just wish I'd grabbed an Orcapocalypse set now, that extra $25 would have gone a long way soon.

Deargodpleaseno. The collectible BS ia qhat turned me off D&D minis; if I need six skeletons for An encounter, I don't want to buy $50 worth of random grab bags and hope I get my skeletons, I just want to buy the godscursed things and get it over with. And "well you can just buy them on the (overpriced) secondary market" doesn't do good things for the producing company, and it's a pain in the arse when you need a "rare" monster for an encounter. Funk. Dat.
