I tried hard to get more of an arabian color to the gold trim. There are things I like about her, and things I don't like. Akiosama Posted March 20, 2012 Share Posted March 20, 2012 The miniature itself looks pretty nice - I think the overall work is well done. The things that stand out to me... The color on her lips, for some reason looks a little light for the skin tone. (And I can't get out of my head, for some reason, that her face looks like Kim Fields' - Tootie from The Facts of Life) I do think that the bulk of the figure is too neutral in color - a brown skintone with a brown jerkin. The red and white catch the eye a bit too quickly, and it draws the attention away from what should be the focal point, the face. The only other thing that stands out to me, is that the colors are very vibrant, and therefore the model feels too 'clean' for an adventurer. I think that just might be me, though, but a little 'wear' on the boots and the white and red areas might tone down that vibrancy and help return the focus up to the face. It's a great paint job. I think the red is well done, and the whites are fantastic. It's just feels a little off in composition, and I think it's the well done whites and reds up against such a dark and neutrally colored skintone. (And I'm jealous of the speed that you can pump them out too; I can't keep up, lol) Second, the face really is excellent, but I do think that it might be a good idea to tone down the lips a little like Akiosama mentioned or go with maybe a dark red lipstick. I also echo that the bodice is a little dark for the rest of your very vibrant model. Personally, I'd suggest making it white just like the rest of her armor, but then again I'm a fan of fairly limited color patterns while I've notice that you prefer very vibrant, diverse color patterns (which really adds a cool high-fantasy feel to your models ). In the end, though, your painting is great, and that is definitely one of the most original takes I've ever seen on that mini! I know I'd be happy to hit the gaming table with her in hand! She said "fiery orange, browns, and white" and I put this together as best I could. With regards to the light pink lipstick I simply couldn't resist. I think the brown, as is, is just a little too neutral, when compared to the red. As Anne says in the video, "Warm colors draw the eye," and that skirt and the brilliant white do that. It's a bit of a tough palette, considering that most of the time one would want the face to be the focal point. But don't mind me - I just enjoy debating in theory. MonkeySloth Posted March 21, 2012 Share Posted March 21, 2012 I think the color choices are just fine and work well together--though I would have separated the leather armor and straps some more via slightly different base coats (but used the same shades and highlights since this is a quick paint). I think the lips work for me because they're close to a bunch of white but the color does help define the face. I really think it just comes down to personal taste.
