I normally just express my hatred of what is going wrong as I grit and bare fixing it. If I can't, I take my vengeance out by stripping it!!! lol

I found the thread where I brought this up in the past (3 years ago), and reading through it was pretty amusing to me now. I mean, I understand why what I do upsets some people, and that's ok. But how it devolved into a discussion of how my attitude toward this is comparable to the downfall of western civilization was (and still is) beyond absurd.

 

Why did I come out of lurking to post this? I don't know. But I will say that it's been a while since I've thrown something away. On the other hand, there are some minis on my table that I haven't put paint on in years, and I have no intention of ever finishing. So maybe those should be thrown away. Or maybe they are things I can try different color schemes/techniques out on before I try them on something that I want to finish.

 

Anyway, I'm sorry that I've derailed this a bit. Back to the original subject--Yes, I have had days where I want to throw the minis across the room. I've had days where I actually have thrown the minis across the room. I've had days where I've said that I'm giving up painting forever (and sometimes go months without painting because of said days).

I actually did flatten one mini once in frustration when I was first starting. It was strangely satisfying and at the same time saddening.

 

Do you know what the key to learning to paint is? Ignore how good other people's minis look and paint to your satisfaction first.

 

If your mini looks good, if you like it, if your friends like it, if it looks good on your table, THEN YOU ARE A GOOD PAINTER.

One, that mini isn't meant to be gamed with.

 

Two, that mini looks good in a photograph in a lightbox/setting made perfect just for it.

 

Three, those grapes are sour anyway.

 

Four, entirely serviceable paint jobs are "7-worthy".

 

I think about those things when I'm ready to chuck a mini across the room.

Never thrown one across the room. I've dropped them before, bending them horribly. I dropped one accidentally into a puddle of paint on my pallet, which sucked, but never wanted to throw one. I do have to admit that I've thrown four or five into Pine Sol, and I have a few that will sit there forever until they actually end up in Pine Sol, but never tossed one in rage. With my luck it would put a hole in the wall that I'd have to explain to my wife or cover it up with some wall art.

I don't think I've ever thrown one out. Or against the room. I've had a few get too damaged in prep to use, so they got tossed in my tiny metal for Reaper to melt box. Some of the ones that mades it past prep but never really got finished are kept to test paint schemes or to practice freehand on before doing it on the real figure. I was a little tempted to abuse a mini with an arm I reattached _three_ times with pin, glue and putty that kept falling off during painting, but he now has a new life as my official dullcote tester.

 

I do have a small collection of paused during painting and probably won't get back to minis. I try to be pretty good about finishing stuff once I've started, but sometimes something gets bumped for a contest or commission and then is left long enough that I've either leveled up and don't feel like finishing something of the older standard, or I've just completely lost where I am with it. Like pae, I probably need to figure out what to do with those some time...

I'm the king of stripping minis down. In fact I'm pretty sure that every mini I've ever painted has been stripped. I get Christmas cards from the people at Simple Green. Working on that. Yeah sometimes it gets very frustrating. Particularly when you know what you want, but just cannot seem to get it to fly. I've never thrown any, or thrown any away. Yet.

I think it's pretty valuable to keep some of your painted minis. If you strip everything down, then you have nothing older to compare it to, so it's hard to see how you're progressing. It can be comforting when you're getting frustrated with painting to pull out some of the older stuff and see that at least what you're doing now is better than that. ;->

I was reading that as all of the minis that he has painted currently were stripped at one point before they were finished. Not finished and then stripped. But I'm good at misreading things.
