As soon as they rolled out the faction information for RCon, I knew I had to represent, and play my Razig. I immediately decided on a balanced and well-rounded list (this was long before the pirate islands were even a glimmer in Jason's eye), figuring I'd just go and have fun. After building the list, I immediately sent off all but 4 models for painting (only Razig, the Maiden, and 2 of my zombies were painted at the time) so that they would be done and back in time. ::):

Razig - 1000 points

Troop 1

Razig w/Mast of the Maiden, Book of Tactics

Murder of Crows x 2

Salty Sabre x 3

Skeletal Chain Ganger x 3

Skeletal Harpooner x 2

Bone Marine x 2

Zombie Recruit x 4

Troop 2

Crows Nest Willy

Rat Swarm x 3

Zombie Recruit x 2

Troop 3

Dark Maiden w/Treasure Map

Troop 4

Scuttlebones

Luck Stone

The generic strategy for the list was to play whichever doctrine was most useful, use the smattering of ranged attacks and magic to keep the opponent off balance, and hopefully keep making tough checks for all those Tough/x models in Razig's troop using his WA.

Thanks to Steve, Brian, and MiniCannuck for the entertaining games. Also, a huge thanks to Dan for indulging me on Thursday and killing a bunch of time painting barrels and crates and the like as additional terrain for the tables. You are the man. ::):

So thanks to everyone for the great games. I especially want to thank Fruggs for being such a good sport on a tough mission. Kuro sorry our game had your low point for the tourney. Next time I'll wait until turn two to make it to my base. ::P: Jason the tables looked great and if the tables continue being awesome like that then O may need to finally paint my forces. The only critique I have is more walls/woods for LOS.

I agree. I needed some dead trees in there. But, time was my enemy. I only had 5-6 weeks to finish the table. Hopefully, Reaper will have us do it again for next year. If so, we will make sure to start sooner and make them even better. Course, the hard part is going to be how to tie Warlord into the theme for next year, "Dark Carnival" without it getting cheesy (Warlord meets Mardi Gras?). I have lots of great ideas for mini-games and scenarios like Castlebuilder runs, (fighting in a mirrored funhouse, escher-like adventure, floors dropping out from under you, etc...) but admit I am at this moment in time still drawing some blanks when it comes to how to fit the theme to the more serious Taltos conquering world of the Warlord tourney.

Plus, we need to wait and see if Reaper decides to do their whole "create 4 Dark Carnival Factions" thing that worked so well with the Pirates.. Of course if they do that, then they really need to make 4 factions that can be continued on in future Cons so they can continue their "Harry Potter Houses annual winner of the Golden Lion" aspect. I just don't see the Karkarians fitting in with Dark Carnival...

If anyone gets an idea, please PM me.

Only thing I have at this point is that "Murphy's Scenario" will probably be included in some form. I think it would fit well.

lol, no problem. ::): You did what your army was built to do, and I can't complain about that!

Here's the Necropolis list I used to earn 40 hard-won points:

Elsabeth Briarkiss

Armor of Flesh

Sir Osric, Crimson Knight

Bat Swarm

Wraith Harvester

Chattel x 2

Baron Kentaur the Everliving

Gauntfield, Scarecrow

Bat Swarm

Crypt Bat x 3

Chattel

Eikar,Crypt Bat

Bat Swarm

Crypt Bats x 3

Gargoyles x 6

My scores were 14-6 / 10-10 / 16-4 for overall 40-20 (tied for 2nd place).

I just had guys that could move and melee. No magic stuff because I did not want to have to remember when and how to use my spells and did not want to have to worry about protecting magic users.

Crypt Bats are cheap and fast. Gargoyles are fun flyers with DR1. Bat Swarms can be summoned all at once by a vampire so can really gang up on someone. Briarkiss is a great fighter and the Armor of Flesh and Osric with his Parry capability help to keep her alive on her feet. The Harvester in the one troop and Scarecrow in the other have sickles and can Swing-through if the neighborhood gets too crowded. Chattel are useful for their Provoke and as a snack for my vampires.

You don't have to think much to use this army. Everything is very simple. Right up my alley.

Had fun except the guy with the basket-full of luckstones almost made me lose my mind.

Anybody get some good photos of the gameboards? I really appreciated all of the details; the sharks, the shipwrecks, and the skeletons hanging in the iron cages from the roof of the entrance to the cove. Oh, and the giant squid. Awesome.

Also alot more painted armies this year so great going guys.

No sweat helping with the last-minute paint jobs on the terrain stuff, Vince. All I did was sit on my butt and basecoat and drybrush a few things. Hey guys, Vince even went so far as to hop in his car and make a speed-run to Hobby Lobby to buy water effects stuff so that the barrels stacked randomly around the boards would look cooler by having water in them. He even colored the water with a touch of blue-green ink.

Really inspirational stuff, man. Good job to you, Vince.

And before I step down, thanks Jason for the great job you did running the tournament. As always.

Dan: My list has been set for over a month. Considering that it was done at a time before the scenarios were started, I am not a threat this year. I will be playing, but not defending my title. :;):

I bet you end up in the top 3.

I won my bet.

First off a big thank you to Jason for running the tournament and making a great terrain board. John also made a great piece. I had three great opponents and had a great time.

My list:

Joeliyn

Sister Kendra

Kyla

Sable Guard x 6

Duelist x 3

Neva

Chain Sister x 3

Blade Warden x 3

Callindra

Sable Guard x 4

Marda

Sable Guard x 3

Luck Stone

1000 points, 28 Models, 62 Tracks.

First round I played the last scenario against Darren, Sparky on the boards. He brought an elf army, and his rush attack centaurs were greater than my Sables. He also had a couple of mages that cast mirror image on Caerwyn all day. 3 Caerwyns (two who focused each round) really hurts. He was able to control the boat pretty much the whole game and score most of the points. On the last round though he was very kind and basically allowed me to hold the boat the last round. I beleive Darren won 12-8

Second round I face Dan, Wowahboy on the boards. His list is above, and we played the first scenario. Basically he flew his flyers off the board and I ran my Sables off the board. I was bothering him with my luck stones. It didn't help that I was excited because I was actually remembering to use my faction ability. We ended up tying 10-10.

The last round I face Joy Lyn, JoLT on the boards. She also had an elf army and we played the second scenario. My goal was to block her bridge with all my soldier, but my spy failed me and she ended up going first. I ended up sacrificing my soldiers trying to delay her leaders and elites from getting to the chests. I forgot about my luck stones near the end which would have allowed me to get at least one more point. It was funny, all game I had been worried about her summoning her Mossbeard only to find out at the end it was her totem of battle. I barely won 11-9.

Humansquish is being modest. He's a really good player and fun to play against as well. He took my ranting to Jason about his luckstones well. Good for you, man.

"Jason. You're killing me. Dude shows up with a bucket of luckstones worth +2 each. You're taking the dice out of my hands. Rolling lots of dice is the funnest part. You're taking my dice away. This is broke. What were the playtesters thinking? You're killing me here, man." Jason just smiled as he usually does when I moan and groan.

HS also got me so frustrated with his shooty dude that I diverted two Gargoyles from exiting the board, which would have been another point (58 pts x 2 = 116 rounded to 100), to kill it and subsequently get swarmed and killed by Sable Guards.

I did not play Kuro Cleanbrush, so I do not know why he won the Sportsmanship award, but Humansquish must have been in the running.

But I think that the games that challenge me or that I learn from are the best and most memorable. Schooling some beginner dude ain't memorable, Memorable was my 1-19 loss last year to Vince last year, but I also remember every move from the time I first beat Jason back in '09.

Sparky - Darren - first taught me to play over numerous Saturdays and Sundays back in '07. I still accuse him of being a notorious cheater every time he "focuses."

Anyway, thanks again to everyone for a great time. I am already looking forward to next year. Hopefully my Reptus will be ready enough to bring by then. I'm still trying to figure out a list for my three Krungbeasts Blizzard, Big Red and Bruiser.
