Castlebuilder
At Origins I got myself wrapped up into a couple of non-Reaper projects for GenCon. I'm still not sure how much time it will involve once I get there, but I have to keep options open. I have decided not to run any Reaper stuff this year (other than the pick up game with MiniCannuck and his buddies).
SAbel
Well I was going to post and be FUNNY and sarcastic about the entire message here, but I just step back and say. 1. I personally will miss REAPER minis at Gen-Con this year. 2. I would like to know will I be able to purchase Reaper Minis at the con, I think last year at Origins you guys had to step up some type of alternitive shop because of a conflict. 3. I wish I could just use my Tab key in the forum to add spaces 4. Would there be people there that could look at and give a review of sculpting work? 5. Is the reason that sculpting demos not at Gencon (only 4 or less) because Reaper is not attending? *** Reaper Con is on my bucket list now, I wish you guys had a Reaper Con North that offered something akin to what ya'all do in Texas. #3 I couldnt help myself even if I tried. odinsgrandson
I went to PAX a few years ago, and at the time, Privateer Press was pretty much the only miniatures company there. Since then, I've heard that Coolmini and Sodapop have been attending regularly. Overall, I think it has become a better place for everyone. We still support GenCon. Fifteen years of Reaper-at-GenCon has been wonderful for us - although I would like to point out that is NOT the first year we have been unable to attend GenCon. We are still sponsors of the MHE events, including many of the painting classes and the MHE Paint and Take. We are working very closely with them to be sure that they are not harmed by our lack of retail presence directly - and I expect that other companies will pick up the fact that we will not have a booth presence and somebody will carry our figures. I'm glad to see you're still supporting Gencon. I think the best things I've seen at the con have been the tables where your sculptors hang out (and give me tips). I'm hoping some of them still go to Gencon, as I'm already committed to going to that con. I was wondering, is there a manufacturer award from Reaper in the Gencon Painting Competition this year? Niranth
I'm disappointed that Reaper will not have a booth this year, but I do understand. The only "must have" item I had this year was the Pirate Mousling with a Tankard. Will there be any of those available other than at a con? Pretty please with surgar on top? Let me know if you would like me to arrange getting you a pirate mousling. :) As long as I don't get the flu again, I can send it out pretty quickly.
Moderator Darsc Zacal Posted July 30, 2012 Moderator Share Posted July 30, 2012 I was hoping to attend PAX this year and visit with the Reaper folks since this is in my neck of the woods. It looks like it won't work out for me afterall, but what Reaper is doing by attending is how one raises the miniatures hobby profile. Even GenCon didn't just spring up out of the blue and become what it is now overnight. Hopefully Reapers attendance will inspire more mini manufacturers to attend PAX in the future, and miniature hobbyists in the Pacific Northwest will finally get something to rival the big boys like GenCon. Niranth
Jubilee, let me see if I can find one in Indy first. If not, then please! Darsc Zacal, I just saw where the attendance at PAX is somewhere close to 70K and Gen Con will be at 40K. This explains a bit too. BTW, I do know how to spell "Sugar"
klarg1
I'm sad that Reaper won't be at Gencon this year, but I understand the reasoning. PAX East is local to me, so, hopefully, I can stop by and say 'hi' next year.
Qwyksilver
PAX East was a blast. Definitely stop by and say hello. Since it will be in March this year, I will have to keep a scoring update for the Bruins and Celts instead of the Sox on the register. klarg1
PAX East was a blast. Definitely stop by and say hello. Since it will be in March this year, I will have to keep a scoring update for the Bruins and Celts instead of the Sox on the register. Now that's service! I'm going to have to save my pennies. PAX East falls right in between TotalCon* and ReaperCon next year. If I am very, very good (and a little lucky), I'd love to do all three. * - For those unfamiliar, TotalCon is a moderate-sized gaming con that happens in Eastern MA every February. Inarah
Darsc Zacal, I just saw where the attendance at PAX is somewhere close to 70K and Gen Con will be at 40K. This explains a bit too. These numbers are somewhat misleading. PAX's reported 70k attendance is a turnstile figure, meaning every body that went through the door over the total 3 or 4 days of the con. Actual individuals with badges was something closer to 25k. GenCon's turnstile was just under 120k last year with 36,733 badges reported sold. EvilJames
I am also wondering how to get a hold of the Pirate mousling con mini (or specifically my wife is). Will there be any specail swag bag deals in the reaper store again this year perhaps? Or is someone who has one or is going to PAX willing to trade/ pick one up for us? I remember the last time you guys didn't come to Gen Con. I wondered the vendor hall for hours trying to locate your booth only to finally ask someone (I forget who or where) and find out you weren't there due to some conflict or issue. I never did find out the actual reason. Ah well It's Gen Con I'll find something to do.
EvilJames
You know, since Reaper couldn't be at GenCon, they could always go to Rock con which is a wargaming con in Rockford IL not far from me :) Iron Wind was there a few years ago. Valient and Gorgon Studios still go. And I really want a chance to get the Con Mini. Anyway, just a suggestion.
