Okay, for those of us ::cough::sane persons ::cough:: who hate clowns, I would like to point out that clowns are at the CIRCUS, and this is Dark CARNIVAL. So no clowns. Not unless you're into bodily harm. I really can't control myself.

One year, at a haunted house, when I was about....9, my father tried to hold me in a room with clowns. I punched him in the man-bits and ran. So. There's that. Fair warning given - dress as a clown at your own peril.

There was also a mention, at last ReaperCon, of Steampunk, but I guess that's been scrapped for another year?

If you look at the Conventions page from the main Reaper page, it describes the costume theme influences as Dark Carnival, Steampunk and Gothic. It's been described to me several times as steampunk dark carnival.

Not sure if I'll dress up next year. All I know is a ALL BLACK outfit with boot cuffs/ties in Texas was a bad IDEA!!! I got back to the hotel & it was good thing Beowulf' wasn't there as I just started stripping everything off as I was a giant puddle.....ha ha.

Yah I think I'm gonna try & buy my plane ticket early this year so that'll be one less thing I have to take out of the tax refund for next year & really only have to worry about the hotel room, as far as big expenses. Which of course I will try & split with someone as well.

As much as I like the camaraderie of BSin with people to & from the hotel or to & from the airport I may try & rent a vehicle this time. Of course that just means I'll be the driver instead of a passenger when it comes to carpools......

With clowns. Scarey, evil clowns. That eat yer face.

Blarg! This was the year I was finally going to try and make it out there. Now chances are good I'm going to be unemployed here in a month or two (after 20 years). Even if I find another job, I likely won't be able to take vacation that soon... :grr:

And really let's not forget that the biggest draw for ReaperCon is me running the auction.

& you do that quite well too. Gotta admit the revised seating arraignment this year was a bit odd for the auction but overall I thought it went well & this coming from a person who didn't do any bidding. First time I haven't in all the years I've been going to RCon.

One thing to note about this website is it defaults to displaying only the past 30 days worth of topics. If you go to the top of a page that lists forum topics, you'll see a red bar. Click the Custom link at the end of the red bar to reset it to show more topics. Skimming through those you'll find a lot more info and discussion about past ReaperCons. I'm going to try to post links to a few useful topics below, but you might want to skim through to get more impressions and info.

The Newb Guide to ReaperCon - http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/44512-the-newb-guide-to-reapercon-or-reapercon-101/

Last year's painting and sculpting classes schedule - http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/44394-reaper-con-class-schedule/

While some classes are almost guaranteed every year (painting skin, how not to suck), an effort is made to rotate through some topics, or rotate topics to different instructors so you get a different point of view on the subject. Classes are generally 5-6 people, two hours long and hands on, so they're really good for class size and getting to practice. I learned a lot of what I know in Reaper classes, and I'm happy to be able to turn around and share that with other people now!

There is a lot of other stuff that goes on, but I'm not seeing any links to the schedules for those in a quick scan. There's are tournament and casual play sessions of Reaper's skirmish game, Warlord. There are a lot of role-playing game sessions. You can take a tour of the facility and find out how miniatures are made (a super interesting thing to do!) You can trade in old metal you don't want to pick out new metal you do. (Which also lets you do stuff like get 50 squirrels without having to buy 50 blisters of mixed familiars.) The past few ReaperCons have seen other companies like Heavy Gear also coming in and running games and selling their products. Every planned activity like a class or game that you go in comes with some Reaper bucks, which you can spend on Sunday at the auction to acquire Reaper products or special stuff like blankets or phone cases or so on with Reaper art on them.

There is a handout with the schedule that is provided at the event, and the majority of activities are announced and put out for signup on this forum. Classes are purchased through the web store. They put up 3 of the class seats in advance, then 2 are available to buy on the day of the class for walk-ins and people who missed the online purchase frenzy.

Some things to remember about ReaperCon are:

A. Don't take to many classes. Your brain will be mush... I promise!

B. Everyone is friendly, don't ever be afraid to ask anyone a question if you need help with something

C. There is always something to do. Just look around the room, if there is an empty seat, chances are they are looking for a player and would love to have you.

D. Sonic Mike works miracles. There will always be good food as long as he is around.
