Moderator TaleSpinner Posted June 19, 2012 Author Moderator Share Posted June 19, 2012 Hours 4 and 5: I painted the mouth and teeth. The end of the tongue still needs work. I also got about half done highlighting the body armor scales using the Stone triad. Have a good night, Andy

Metalchaos
I like the depth of is evil eye and the teeth are yellowed to perfection. I can’t wait to see what you're planning for the top scales.
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted June 20, 2012 Author Moderator Share Posted June 20, 2012 Hours 6 and 7: I finished the tongue and the body scales. I also base-coated the eye stalks and washed them with blue liner. The eye stalks took far longer than I expected. They may not look like it, but there is a lot of surface area to cover on them. The 10 "small" eyes are going to take forever. I'll probably do the head plates tomorrow. I'm heading to bed now. MamaGeek
So is the stone coloring meant to be dungeon-dweller camouflage?
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted June 21, 2012 Author Moderator Share Posted June 21, 2012 So is the stone coloring meant to be dungeon-dweller camouflage? Yeah, I'm kind of doing homage to Gygax's original coloration concept from 1e. My friend like purples and is an old school gamer so I felt the stone look will go well with a cool purple palette and his gaming style. When I do one for myself it will be a more warm palette using reds and browns. Andy
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted June 21, 2012 Author Moderator Share Posted June 21, 2012 Hours 8 and 9: Alright, I finished the top, eyelids, and the mouth membranes, sort-of. After looking at it in the pictures, I realize I need to work on blending the highlights better on top, especially on it's right side (last picture). That sucks because the mixes for the colors I used were fairly complex. The Eye lid and membranes were actually done with Woodstain through Driftwood brown triad in 5 parts. It was too yellow, so I cooled it down with 4 glaze coats of clear blue. Have a good night. Andy

Moderator TaleSpinner Posted June 27, 2012 Author Moderator Share Posted June 27, 2012 Hours 10, 11, and 12: I spent these hours painting the eye stalks. Lots went on here. I used a lot of glazing to get the effect i wanted. These are hard to break down and describe. I decided to glue them to the mini at this point so I can make adjustments, fills, and finish the painting in place. All I really have left are the small eyes, claws, eye stalk membranes, belly, and the base. Those eyes are going to take a long time though. MamaGeek
It looks really fantastic, Andy! Even better painted than sculpted! The mouth is a little too low saturated, though. It looks like it needs more true red, and some tight gleams of white so it looks wet in there. There's an image on this page of a well-made monster mouth, although you have to scroll down a ways to see it: http://www.edutopia.org/how-to-special-effects-class
Kuro Cleanbrush
Looking awesome! I can't get over how great the eye looks, but I really do feel for you when thinking about all those little eyes... So, do you have some stellar basing in the works?
Metalchaos
Your paint on the eye stalks is organic and really nicely done, the glazing layers gives them a lot of depth. But still the main eye is getting all my attention. You were able to get an hypnotic effect out of the purple and green, it stunning. Wouldn't that be better if its front right eye stalk would come out from under the top front scale? All the eye stalks seems to come out from under the top scales but this one is passing through the scale.
