Sanael
Hannah, here, is playing the role of Lady Elaydren d'Cannith, an NPC in my Eberron campaign, a dragonmarked scion of House Cannith who has taken an interest in the party. With her patronage and support, they've reached 10th level or so, delved some of the deepest secrets of the world, and, in the case of one PC, developed a slightly-above-his-station crush (that's actually working well for him, so far). I've been meaning to paint up this wizard for a while, and I figured it was about time--after over a year of taking missions from Elaydren, rescuing her from zombies and madmen, meeting her often strange assortment of "friends," etc.--to put a face with the narration. So here she is, with my own thoughts after: Things I'm happy with: she was a pretty quick paint-up, probably about 8 hours or so, and looks very nice on the table despite the speed. I'm happy with her skin and hair, and all her little ruby bits work well. I also think the palette is decent, and the red accents don't "Christmasize" overmuch with the predominantly green dress. Things I'm not pleased by: the freehand is really rough, even moreso than I thought now that I've looked at the photos. The base (hard to see in the photos) represents some of my worst GS-fu ever, which really just displays a lack of patience. I'm also mad at myself for being a chicken, as her shoulders reveal huge swathes of skin, plenty of room for me to freehand her dragonmark; I think I'll likely go back and do that, tendrils of dragon-magic creeping over the back of her right shoulder to the collarbone.
Silas Coggeshall
This looks awesome. :) Love how the green dress looks. Don't worry about not doing the tattoo on her shoulder. I've tried some similar things on minis and have been burned. lol Takes a bit of courage I think. :P I'm sure it would look great if you do decide to do it though. Mclimbin
Looks very nice. I'm sure your players will be impressed. I think it's easy to do monsters or ugly characters, but it's hard to do pretty characters, so congrats! Don't be scared of doing the tattoos. I recently figured out that as long as you have some of your fleshtone paint on your palette you can touch up anything that your are not happy with (sloppy edges and what not). I ended up doing flesh--tattoos--touch up flesh--touch up tattoos--touch up flesh--touch up tattoos, etc. etc. Just be sure to use thin paints so it doesn't get too chunky. Jay
Nice! I'd do the tatoos first though. If you wreck it then you haven't wrecked a finished piece.
Sanael
Thanks, all, for the comments! She's back on my workbench for the tattoo...the nice thing, Jay, is that I put a good coat of sealer on her. If I screw up the freehand, I can erase it without hurting the paint underneath. Dullcote: the miniature painters' save point!
Sanael
OK, did the dragonmark. Here's pics! Blue liner to build the shape, then P3's Underbelly Blue, Amethyst Purple and Ghost White in succession to build up shimmery colors.
Silas Coggeshall
That looks incredible. Excellent free hand. ;)
TheBucklandBrewer
Looks great! I especially like her hair, her eyes and the gemstones on her chest. Nice job on the tattoo aswell! I think I would never have the courage to even try it! About the freehand on her dress, you could try to add a bit more shadows in the folds of her dress on top of the freehand... (so only darkening the freehand itself into the folds, making it follow the shape of the dress... it should give a bit more depth to the freehand)
