Fremen
Ok, I’m in. I want to play Warlord. I’ve been reading the increased activity on the boards; getting more and more motivated, and then I saw the videos on YouTube posted by wolvermonkey, and they’ve pushed me over the edge: http://tinyurl.com/77fr2pb http://tinyurl.com/7np49o2 http://tinyurl.com/6v3h6dz (If you haven’t seen them, I think they’re great battle reports). I’d like one of my goals to be able to create videos like that, but he’s got some great terrain and models and of course, a willing player who also has nice models. So one step at a time before I get too far ahead of myself and end up not even getting started due to dreams of grandeur. It’s been literally 6 years since I’ve played a miniatures game. Of course during that time, “real-life” has ramped up to create some very anti-gaming conditions. But I realized there are always going to be difficulties making time and if I want to do it, there is no time like the present. Miniature skirmish games are something I know I love to play, and I think its high-time I let myself enjoy them again. Getting into Warlord seems like it might be hard though. There is little support for the game where I’m at (or maybe my social network is just too small?), and then there is creating a game board/space to play and getting the models up and ready to go – possibly a real investment in time and energy. But really the hard part for me is that I love pretty much every faction in the first Second Edition Warlord book, and a lot in the Savage North book. I want them ALL! Conspiring forces however have left me with dwindling resources in terms of time and money, so I have to focus and choose, as I suppose nearly all of us do. My first faction is actually a no-brainer for me. It’s going to be Necropolis for the sheer fact that they have gorgeous bloodsucking vampires in them, and I think I’m going to have a lot of fun playing them. To make sure I get going in the right direction, I’m going to make plans to get everything done. I’m also not going to do some things, like create a blog, or do a lot of photography, because I know I have limited time, and the time I do have I want to utilize for painting and playing. Of course, a blog could be fun and self-motivating, but for now…nothing except the basics. In my dreamier moments, I have the slightly insane plan to create 200pt forces for nearly all factions. Then 500 and 1000 point forces for a few main factions. We’ll see how far I get. The good thing about starting here is that the Reaper boards have made it easy. It’s a cornucopia of all the knowledge you could possibly want to get it together. I already know my way around a paint brush, and there is the excellent DIY thread that Doug’s Workshop posted awhile back (http://www.reapermin...dougs-workshop/) which I’m going to be borrowing from heavily. I’m off to flesh out some plans, and assemble some models. Wish me luck!
