Shogan Posted July 3, 2012 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Hey guys! Just wanted to show off my western town that I ordered from Aetherworks. It came in the mail today and I have to say it's pretty terrific. The detail is amazing and it was a blast to put together. Its extremely simple and it only took about half an hour to get it all together. I took some pics with the few western minis that Ive painted. As soon as I finished all my figs I hope to run a game of Cowboys and Gunslingers at my FLGS. Let me know what you think. I'm looking forward to adding some bits here and there. It would be neat to see a little more variety. I do like the General Store though. I didn't pick up the undertaker which would be pretty neat. They also had a brick building that was out of stock and a building under construction that I kind of wish I had picked up now that I see how cool they are. Shogan Posted July 3, 2012 Author Share Posted July 3, 2012 Yes they are. They have floors that look like the wooden slats. I would like to get some tables a stuff to put in. They are really nice. All the pieces are slotted and fit together really nicely. None of this is glued and I would say doesn't really need to be with the exception of one roof that is a little loose. What I'm really wondering about, though, is what you do about storage? It looks as if those buildings would take up quite a bit of space, and just sticking them together in a box would seem to be asking for breakage (especially with the outer balcony railing and supporting posts on the hotel). Heisler Posted July 3, 2012 Share Posted July 3, 2012 Those are nice, I would still recommend gluing them together at some point, leaving the roofs removable. Assembling and dissembling them will wear out the points where the walls slot together. Storage of any kind of building is always an issue. I use plastic tubs that I have sectioned off with mat board along with a few pieces of foam to prevent jostling. I'm a little worried about painting them as the detail is very shallow and I suspect it would be easily covered up. I do plan on gluing the roofs as a couple of them tend to slip. I dont think Ill need to take them apart much. They actually dont take up too much room and I think Ill be able to fit them into a couple of tubs that we have and I can store them in the garage. Please remember to paint the interiors as well to help avoid warping of the wood. I'll dig up some old model railroad tricks for painting "unpainted" wood which will add a lot of character. Although it provides more of a "creosote soaked" look, like you'd want for trestles, phone poles, and like that. In real life, businesses in the wild west tended to get that "silvery" look that unpainted wood picks up through sun. Either that, or whitewash, since that was the cheapest and most easily available paint. Note also that you tended to get grayer and dirtier as you got closer to the ground, due to dust and dirt kicked up by people and horses.
