MiniCannuck
Hi all, I've been thinking about running a Warlord event for the Fall In convention in PA this October to help promote the game (and Reaper in general). I figure that I want to do 4-6, 500pt armies that show the diversity of the game. My question is whether anyone has done this before. If so, do you have play tested lists and scenarios that I can start from? Of course, credit will be given to the author :) Thanks gang, Kevin
Castlebuilder
I thought that it was the first weekend in November. I haven't done many HMGS cons, but from my experience having prepared scenarios is best. You could still do small army lists, but with a specific themed battle for each pair. If you want to hang out and pick my brain during GenCon I would be happy to share my experiences with you.
Stubbdog
Well, another idea is to do some sort of everyone against a dragon type of game, similar to the Kraken game at Reapercon. Obviously, the thinking there is a little different. You are introducing them to the game concepts and mechanics but not necessarily the one v one strategies and tactics. But, it allows you to play with several people at once. During the game you can then talk about Warlord a bit and hand out cards or something for people to contact you afterwards if they want to get one on one demos of that game where you can go more in depth. Or if you prefer just to do straight up one v one demos then I am sure we can help come up with something to help with that too.
Castlebuilder
That sounds like the original Kill the Dragon scenarios. Those were great intro games. Now if you really want to impress them I recommend Dragnon's Night Out. Fighting one dragon is very cool. 6-10 dragons rampaging through a valley full of ballistas, men at arms, and sheep, now that is impressive! Of course for that you would have to convince me to drive out to Lancaster for Fall In......
Shakandara
Death matches are great too. Ignore army building rules entirely, and give each player a couple of models to work with. Throw them all into an arena. With only 2 models each, play stays speedy, and as a pit fight, you can have multiple people play at once. Bonus: you can easily do like 6-8 teams, and end up painting less figures than for a single 500 point demo force. ~v
MiniCannuck
Great ideas! For this convention's style, I think I want to go with the idea of 4-6 people playing on one table Similar to Dragons night out, I want them to be able to attack/ally with each other while having secret agendas. I can still use the time during the game to talk about normal game play like Stubbdog suggested. I like Shak's idea of a few models each as long as I can figure a way to keep most people involved for a majority of the time. Tim - I think we have a lot of taking to do at GenCon! Castlebuilder
Tim - I think we have a lot of taking to do at GenCon! Sounds like it. We need to decide what we are going to do for our GenCon pick up game.
MiniCannuck
Tim - I think we have a lot of taking to do at GenCon! Sounds like it. We need to decide what we are going to do for our GenCon pick up game. For sure. We are up to any scenario you feel like running. Just let us know if you want us to bring anything for it. I'm pretty stoked to play. Our gaming club cycles through A LOT of games and we haven't seen Warlord on the table for awhile.
WolfLord
I'm up for a game, provided it's at a time when I'm free.
