Pingo
Oh, and I'm not picking on you Argentee. That recommendation is downright reasonable, in fact. Not even a hint of rabidity. But I feared the thread was primed to turn into Fan Discussion, and that would absolutely kill it dead as road possum. I want to read these. I've missed too many neat things because of spontaneous FD. Sorry. I think my comment may have made it look like that. I promise I wasn't heading down that tiresome road. So how about that evil customer service, huh?

buglips*the*goblin
Actually, I do have a related thing to ask! Is anybody here playing with the latest Citadel paints and, if so, they any good? I read a lot of complaints when they switched to in-house, and then even more complaints when they went with the twisty caps. Nothing since the new flippy lids. I don't use 'em (I have Coat D'Arms for that), but I do get a few people asking me about them and I don't want to be telling people they're bad if they aren't. Baphomet69
That's okay a shelf full of Robert Jordan isn't worth reading anyway. They do make good paperweights though. *shrug* I'll never know. Still, would have been nice to have had the choice to find out. You sure are a sensitive goblin... So long and thanks for all the fishes. Oh, and bring me a shrubbery!

Yes, I'm using a few but most of mine are still of the previous generation of flippy lid when they introduced foundation paints which suffered from drying out. The new flippy lids seem to be a bit more airtight (when new they are literally sealed shut and the plastic has to be ripped open and they shut much tighter) but time will tell on that. I've not really made a concerted effort to go out of my way and try them but no issues as yet.

DirkDiggler69
I use a lot of different paints GW, Reaper, P3, Vallejo. Can't say I can tell much of a difference between them in general. I prefer Reaper, and Vallejo paints if for no other reason than the bottle style. I hate flip top lids of any sort especially the new GW ones that won't stay open. My customer service experience with the Evil Empire in the past has been great however Failcast hasn't earned that nickname for no reason. I absolutely dislike it in a extreme manner. Reaper Bones beats it hands down at 1/10 the price. I'm sure they have had so many replacement requests, and customer complaints on failcast that the reps are just fed up. Me I gave up on Failcast. Awhile back I was about to order a rather pricey metal model from them. Wanted to theme an entire army around the guy. Said Ah I'll order it tomorrow. The next day I get a e-mail "Over 60 new failcast models!" well you guessed it he was one of them. Didn't order him, and ebay prices on the metal version jumped up 300%. So I just gave up on the army idea altogether. In fact I'm pretty much not buying any more evil empire stuff. The price has gotten ridiculous, and I already have too much.

My only complaint with them is the formulations don't always match 100% with the older version. For example, the new Devlan Mud wash (cannot remember its crazy name) goes on much thicker and darker - same color, but much thicker pigment. Heisler
Failcast is a reference to GW's Finecast resin that they have shifted to . They replaced all of their metal miniatures with resin, indicated that this reduced their production costs and promptly did their yearly upward price adjustment. Overall the resin itself is not bad although they really needed something a bit tougher. I have seen Youtube videos of miniatures literally bending like plastic when left in the sun. It has no more pitting than any other resin, although since the vast majority of their customer base had never bought resin this caused a lot of consternation. However, the QA on this stuff is terrible and I would say, on an anecdotal basis mind you, that almost 1 in 4 castings is actually miscast in someway. Getting a replacement is easy enough through customer service but getting a good replacement seems to be very difficult. It seems if a mini is miscast then every copy of that mini is miscast. Hence the term Failcast.
Nocturne
I've only had a couple of finecast, the details on them both were fine but any thin areas are not very resilient at all. Paitning up Isabella became a nightmare, she broke off at the ankle completely and her horribly bent sword was unsalvageable, had to cut the blade off and replace it with a sturder one, she also had a long pointed piece of flash right on the tip of her chin. At least it wasn't as bad as the inkeeper I had from the old Grendals Green Griffin Tavern set who has a mold line right down the centre of his face,

They replaced all of their metal miniatures with resin, indicated that this reduced their production costs and promptly did their yearly upward price adjustment. That is a small part of what made me swear off GW. Don't brag about cutting cost while charging me more just because it's June. Also, their claims on the material just don't hold up. They claim it has more or sharper detail than their metals... I'm not sure how, it's the same minis in a different material. They didn't re-sculpt and add detail to anything. The materials color makes the detail show up better than bare metal... kinda like primer on a metal mini would. Yes, because I don't live in Australia, this is what killed GW for me. And sorry, as a person with way too many resin kits from Hong Kong and Japan in his closet, the quality of GW resin is not good. Sorry, the failcast set off my rant-o-meter.
