Hm. Think I might do that myself. That's a lotta Bones.

So what y'r saying here is that the Metal Exchange at Reapercon's gonna be obsolete in a year or so, hm?

Are these models shipped all at once or will they will ship on an as-manufactured basis. It would suck to have to pay taxes and duty on multiple shipments of $100+

We're shooting for a one box solution. It'll be like Christmas!

Somehow I do not think 100+ SKUs of Bones will obsolete 1,600+ SKUs of DHL in 3 years. We are not shutting our metal operations down, but supplementing them.

...okay, I went and did it. The tipper was the fact that you won't charge my Amazon account until after payday, when I can easily afford it. And I dunno, Bryan... I mean, I love metal as much as anyone, but if this is really all that successful, and Reaper succeeds in setting the miniatures price points back to 1982 for Bones, AND is able to make them in-house... is metal going to be able to compete?

I suspect that metal will remain the main choice for multi piece models. Also metal and resin will remain the choice for limited edition miniatures since making a mold for a run of under the amount required to at least break even on the mold means its no longer a limited production kind of thing. In the end we will have to wait and see but I think this is going to be a supplement to metal and resin lines and cannot completely replace them.

While I would not expect that the metal would always be our #1 line, if this grows as well as we project it might, especially if we move production in house, we do not anticipate the metal lines going away. Perhaps DHL becomes a boutique line, but while we realistically anticipate a culture shift, the end goal of this product is not to shut down metal production.

So I'm wondering I'm one of those crazies that own many of your large models already. For Example I need another Fire Giant and Frost Giant court like I need a hole in my foot, but just want the Ebonwrath. So can I pick which stretch goal models I buy?

Yes, you can the add-on stretch goals that you want. Just manually update your pledge to cover the required cost. At the end of the kickstarter a survey will go out where you will allocate your additional funds to purchase the add-ons you want.

So do I have to do the add on during the funding period or can I do it during the survey?

You pledge the amount while the Kickstarters is running and then tell us afterwards what you want. There will be an e-mail survey sent out at the end where you can tell us how to apply your pledge.

I'm not worried about metal minis going to plastic anytime soon.

That said, it'll get really interesting when 3D printers become affordable and common.

Ron

I, too, have pondered this. But I'll still cheerfully send my fave sculptors checks in exchange for the patterns for the printer. And how long is it likely to be before a printer that can manage Reaper quality Bones is not only functional, but affordable enough for my workshop?

And even then... man, I dunno. I suppose MOST customers would settle for the printed product, but I have a lot of Reaper product that has stories and fond memories of people and conventions attached to it. I look around me now, and durn near every mini IN here has a story attached to it. Would that be the case if I was just popping Jason's and Gene's patterns out of a box on my workbench?

Clark was pretty clear, but just to make sure Kickstarter newbies understand how it works - the way Kickstarter works is you can ONLY pledge funds while the project is active. Once that countdown timer stops, that project is done. So you have to set your pledge amount to the pledge level you want PLUS any extras you want while the project is active. You can modify this pledge at any time while the project is active, and no money changes hands while it is in the active phase. After the project is done, if it successfully met its goal (as the Reaper project has most definitely done!), then your money is deducted from your account. A short whlie after that you will receive the survey, which lets you indicate which stretch goals you're paying extra for, and confirm your mailing address.

(It might also be worth noting that if your mailing address changes some time between when you fill out that survey but before the pledge packages are mailed out, you will need to let Reaper know!)
