So how many years does this KS currently jumpstart the Bones line by?

At the target of 30 figures a year, and given the amount being given out...somewhere in the 6-7 range at the current pace.

Wait, no, that's not right as it counts multipacks. Recalculating, will edit when done.

Edit: So there's not as many duplicate sculpts as I thought. Completely leaving out Dungeon Attack, and counting only 3 of the Undead horde, we're looking at almost 6 years of jump-start at 30/year. If we hit 'Who's your mummy', it'll be 6 years' and change worth [counting the buy-ins, and each unique sculpt once]. I don't feel as bad about loading up on minis now, as I'm going to spend a LOT more than $200 on figures in the next 6 years.

I had to drop my pledge.

Lets say a higher power was involved, and so was the phrase "You're spending how much on what?"

Hopefully I'll be in for the CAV one.

I sympathize, and offer my sincere condolences. Durn near all of us have been there in one respect or another.

Although you do make me horribly glad my wife divorced me last December. Now I can spend whatever I want on whatever I want...

I'm sure he'll have a few words for me when he gets home. I particularly planning on hearing the following words, in alphabetical order: and, are, budget, crazy, driving, I, me, more, no, please, stop, thinking, what, & you. :bday:

"I was thinking while driving home tonight, that the budget can afford us at $xxx more. What are you thinking? Am I crazy? Do you need me to stop? Are we on the same page? Please?" said He.

everything but "no"

Cher, I tried to like your post more than once, but it wouldn't let me... ::D:

As for those making the hard decisions on how much to pledge, I can sympathize as well. Daughter started college this past weekend and we have a trip to Alaska coming up in 2 weeks. I was well and prepared for all of that.

It was the nearly $1K AC repair bill on the car that I didn't see coming. I'm still in, but not for nearly as much as I'd like to be.

Also, new #1 day. With nearly 5 hours left in the Kicktraq day, this could threaten $1.2M tonight.

I guess when I think of giants I always hold them up to this standard: http://www.cs.cmu.ed...images/3302.jpg

The problem with that mini is that its proportions are entirely human. Which doesn't work! A human leg can support a human torso, but if you double each in size, then the leg is no longer strong enough to support the body, and snaps under the weight. In order to work, a giant has to have much heavier limbs than a human. Which is why I like the new school giants (the ones featured in this kickstarter) so much - they have the bukly, elephantine legs that a giant would actually need to not collapse under its own tremendous weight.

Nothing says giants could not have better bones than humans (like dinos). Or that in a world with flying dragons and also not beholders has to have correct giant bone structure.

First, dinosaurs did not have "better" bones than humans. Dinosaur bones are made up of the same stuff as mammal bones, and form the same way. Dinosaurs aren't any different in this respect than humans: If you take any dinosaur and double its size while maintaining the same proportions to their limbs, they'd snap under the dinosaurs weight too.

Second, in a fantasy world any problem can be handwaved away by saying "Magic did it." That's true. It's also (IMO) kind of lame, and the more often its abused, the more lame it becomes. Which is why I like the heavier set giants. Because they don't require magical biology to explain.

And if you don't like them, and want human proportioned giants, they're are plenty of 54mm scale miniatures that will work just fine for you.

I suppose it depends on your flavor of giant too. Some cultures and folklore ascribes magical powers to giants. Magical giants could have human proportions and it;s no big deal because they're magic.

Fire, Ice and Storm giants all tend to be pretty magical so i could see them being 'prettier'

However, there are some giants that are just big, mean monster people. If they're not inherently magical it makes sense for them to follow biological laws. Ogres, hill giants, etc, these are just big mean monster people, so having them look like giant dwarves makes sense to me.

But that's me. Aesthetics are highly personal.

I also happen to think giants that look exactly like humans only huge are kind of boring to look at. The mini linked looks cool and all, but without some scale it just looks like a generic sword chick...and with a mini next to it for scale it just looks like someone brought in a model from a different game with a different size scale. It just looks kind of weird and out of place to me.

Even magic giants should still *look* big, IMO. Give them huge hurculean physiques or something, even if they just have the proportions of a large bulky human at least they don;t look like someone brought a barbie to the table. but again, that's me.
