Yeah, I measure my backlog in era:

- Lead era (Pre-law suit minis)

- Pre-modern Tin Era (basically tin minis before RP went belly up and scale settled down to be 32mm, these vary a lot in size and quality)

- Modern Tin Era (Basically figs with high quality sculpts all around the 32 mm scale, post RP)

If an abundance of extra minis was going to stop me from purchasing I would have last bought a figure in the previous century.

You're right, of course. Forgot I'm divorced, now, which means I can spend all I want on minis. And the girlfriend is interested in learning how to paint minis....

I tend to measure my painting backlog in kilograms rather than anything else. Once it reaches tonnage I think I might have to stop buying miniatures for a while....

Hmm...

The idea of measuring in kilograms is tempting, as going forward with more plastic mini's means less weight, but I do have over 30 years worth of metal, a lot of that in lead. I'm pretty sure I really don't want to know how much all that weighs. So all in all, I think I'll continue measuring in decades.
