Decade Old Forum

In all the fervor of the current Kickstarter, we missed the Anniversary of the Forums.

August 5, 2002.

Ten years ago, plus a few days, Kit opened the doors to let us in to play.

Back then, ReaperCon was a crazy idea we clamored for.

What are your early forum memories?

I was hanging out here whilst doing night-time parent duty with a restless baby... who is about to turn ten! I made a couple of for-real friends here and picked up masses of painting advice. I also had a great many fun arguments in Beekeepers, back when I was looking for more arguments. Now I have two kids ;)

I'm one of the few forumites who actually date back that far... August 2002? I was furiously trying to finish my teacher certification while the state and federal government were frantically moving the goalposts to prevent my doing so. I was an old fart who went back to college. Actually, I rather liked it. It was a whole lot better the second time around; my social life didn't interfere with my studies quite so much, and for some reason, all the classes were MUCH easier...

I've actually looked back at some of my old posts from '07 and before, and I wonder how exactly everyone put up with me. I was a bit of a ponce...

Admittedly, aging five years does tend to fix that just a little.

I remember the Arbitrary Questions game, watching the Warlord releases as the brand new units came out one by one, getting into a few arguments in Beekeepers...things seem a little more sedate now. Or maybe I'm just different.

I joined back in '04 but had been lurking for apparently very close to when the Forum actually started. My first modern minis I painted were Reaper, back in December '02, and I remember going to see if there was any information on how to paint and prime them and found the forum and just read as a guest.

Then I got married so I was really crazy busy for most of '03.

About a week or so after I officially joined in the summer of '04 I got a PM from Cher (Ladystorm) and we realized we lived about 5 minutes apart. I met her and her family a little while after that and we've been friends since. That lead me to Black Lightning (since she was the BL Boss back in the day) and getting to meet so many of the Reaper folks at various conventions and hanging out and chatting for the past 8 years.

Great topic Cher!

Ten years!

WOW!

I was one of the first to join back on August 6, 2002. There were just a few of us (maybe 15 or 20) for the first few months. It was such a great medium to share pics and ideas (still is). The early PBPs were fun too. I still think about some of the original members, wonder how they might be doing...

Still haven't made it to a Reaper Con, I found my old unused name badge from the first one... I was registered as Stern Kestrelmann. lol!

SK, still lurking until Fall comes...

10 years!

Hey, I think I'm going to install a forum. It'll be fun. We can reach out to our fans.

Sure. Why not?

So many good things have come from that one little lark.

Thanks for everything, gang.

Feb 2003, not too shabby. I remember finding the Reaper website when I first started painting and IIRC, there was a numerical list of the figures you could click on to see a pic. On one of my what do I want to find to paint kicks, I found the forums...and thought. What's a forum. Oh, this is a forum, cool.

I joined 23 October 2003, but my husband Steve (The Old Man in the Mountain) had been here since 12 August 2002 with me lurking over his shoulder.

Of all the things I remember about "back then" ....? HAS it been that long?

I remember the early days of the Sandbox roleplaying part of this forum and the ubiquitous inhabitants thereof. I also remember all the fanfare when certain members (Y'all know who you are) earned their 1000-post credentials. My husband was heard to say "How can anyone have enough time to post that many times?" (with his 2,709 post self)
