Arachne
Specifically, for a World of Darkness game. I've been idly checking them out them for a while, but I can't seem to make heads or tails of the whole VT thing, none of them seem suited to WoD. Someone pointed me towards Fantasygrounds, but I'm not sure if the WoD thing even works. It doesn't seem wholly fleshed out, and I'm afraid of dumping a ton of money into something that's half-baked. I know this isn't the forum for it, but maybe someone can give me a lead, or a link, or some personal experience?
chaosscorpion
A friend of my is looking into this for our group. I'll ask him for his research.
Lastman
I have a lead... try google for ultimate RPG gaming room--sorry I can't be more specific. Maybe it's from an old ENWorld.com forum. Some guy with a lot of money built the ultimate RPG room with a tricked out table and map projector and comfy seating. I'm pretty sure the core of the experience was the virtual tabletop projected from his pc. Now that I've thought about your question for a few minutes, I realize this might not be what you are after. Do you mean the maps that can be used collaboratively to play paper RPGs online? I played a Conan RPG like that but I forgot the exact name of the software--Klooge? Kloogeworks? Ok that's two leads, I hope this helps.
Arachne
Lastman, while that sounds like AWESOME EPIC FUNTIME, the kind I'm looking for will allow me to connect with friends in Ohio and Germany (at least) and play this WoD game I've been brewing for like two years now. My current face to face gaming group has met World of Darkness with a resounding "meh." and I love the system. But I have friends elsewhere who are dying to play. Stupid universe. I'm going to Google Klooge or Kloogeworks, thanks. Chaosscorpion, I appreciate it!
Lastman
I know Klooge or Kloogworks is one of many online RPG "sandboxes" so I am eager to see which one you choose. I know there used to be a lot of them but some are defunct now.
Arachne
Klooge looks good, but for D&D style games. Not really WoD functional, it seems. I might just have to do a play-by-Skype or something.
heruca
Specifically, for a World of Darkness game. I've been idly checking them out them for a while, but I can't seem to make heads or tails of the whole VT thing, none of them seem suited to WoD. With so many virtual tabletop programs to choose from, it can be difficult to find the one that is right for you and your gaming group. This Guide to Choosing a VT should help. My own VT offering, Battlegrounds, has very powerful and flexible dice macro and turn sequencing systems that I believe would support WoD quite well. For example, the dice roller supports many dice rolling mechanics, such as target numbers, counting successes, botches, difficulty numbers, recursive re-rolls, etc. I admit that I'm not very familiar with the WoD system, but I have heard that it is closely related to systems like Exalted, Scion, and Shadowrun, and those are all systems that people are using BRPG to run their games with. Hope this helps. If you can tell me specific requirements for supporting the WoD system, I can tell you if BRPG supports it or not.
Arachne
Hmm. Good stuff. I don't know what to tell you about WoD's specific requirements, because I've never used a VT before. It's a d10 system, and the overall feel is more modern/gritty/noir than fantasy. I'm mainly looking for a lot of tabletop stuff, less maps and tokens, and more dice rolling, character sheet stuff, customization. I'm going to download the demo and see how Battlegrounds works. I appreciate you taking the time to bring it to my attention!
VileKnight
I have been looking into some utilities for my DragonLance game as well, but I also don't want to important a ton of information either. Thanks for the links Heruca.
