02564, Giant Scarab Beetle

Recommended Posts

Here are some pictures of the Scarab I finish painting today.

It’s the main subject of my recent diorama project WIP.

The original sculpt is by Bob Olley.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments!

@Goblyn, it true that green would also be a nice choice of color for the legs. I was inspired from the real colors of a striped love beetle when I painted my Scarab. I think there is endless possibilities of colors when it comes to paint insects.

Some colors are more usual for camo, like when we think of praying mantis, we think green, but then there is the Malaysian shield praying mantis, the giant devil’s flower mantis, the orchid prying mantis, the African praying mantis, all good example of wild color insects.

There is thousand of different Scarabs, all with there own colors. If I have the chance to paint another Scarab or insect someday, I’ll choose different colors. But then again, it will definitely be catchy colors.

Now I’ll have to find a Giant Praying Mantis to spill some paint on!

It's night, it rains and it seems everybody in this forsaken town has closed their doors and windows.
Even the Inn seems to be closed, why?
One would think the villagers are afraid of something.

You hear the sound of wings in the dark sky above you.
Suddenly you hear a soft voice:
All alone in the dark? How nice!

You turn around and the last thing you see is the Necromera.

I painted some Warhammer snake elves up as corn snakes a while back and really liked how they came out. I didn't think the full pattern would work well on a hydra but I went with the same colours and I'm pretty pleased with the result.
