I did it.

All this talk of Bones and painting and miniatures and what have you made me order a bunch of the current Bones line despite the fact I'll be getting a metric buttload of miniatures come spring.

I blame you lot (the posters, admins, mods and owners-aboard here at Reaper) with your enthusiasm, dedication and camaraderie for bringing me back to one of first passions - miniatures.

Thank you!!!

Since the Reaper Bones KS campaign, I've bought a few, just like y'all. ^^ I've been eyeing that Gnoll Warrior for some time... and caved--I lost the staring contest there, Vyr. I was so surprised and pleased with it's construction that I bought Minotaur shortly after. Cool stuff.

My first post to the boards, btw. ^^ Cheers all!

I have a great worm, but the other bones sculpts I wanted, I already had in LE or just had too damned many similar minis* in pre painted plastic. I'll pick up Young dragon when it arrives, but for me, the early bones line was a wee too generic. A good thing for affordable minis, but when one has shelves of unpainted metal and buckets of plasticrack, generic minis are covered. The kickstarter bones have MANY sculpts I really liked, but missed because I was saving my pennies during their metal releases. When metal prices went up, up, up, that door closed for me.

Ogre, werewolf and minotaur are AWESOME bones, I just have too many ogres, werewolves and minotaurs in general.

Being new to the hobby with a little less than a dozen miniatures of these types before pledging on KS, I wouldn't mind if you need to unload some of that surplus. :;): Just kidding, of course. I can just tell... this is going turn into an addiction, isn't it? Collecting and eventually painting minis, I mean.

If you give me an idea what you are looking for, I'll try and help you. Most likely I'll direct you to a place selling minis cheap rather than offering from my OWN collection though. For example, if you want orcs, which yes, you do! then check your PM box, I have a link to a place offering a good price on some paintable orcs

Well I would join you fine gentlemen in such a noble pursuit . . . however . . .

I'm in Afghanistan and getting minis and paint out here is pretty difficult. So I'll have to wait until I get back Stateside - which means another two months of no mini painting, no alcohol, and no sex.

I went to the FLGS last week and picked up the minotaur and bugbear to test the painting before committing. Very happy with the results:

I was impressed that the paint did not crack even when I bent that club on the bugbear 180 degrees and bent that minotaur over to touch his nose to the ground (and for that matter his back to the ground). After applying Army Painter quickshade strong by the dip/shake method to the bugbear, bending the club past 90 degrees looked like it managed to just start cracking the quickshade; however that is still outstanding performance IMHO. The minotaur has no quickshade, but he does have a coat of matte varnish, and that withstood the nose to ground, back to ground, sword to 90 degrees just fine.

I accidentally bent metal minis just a smidgeon in the past and seen paint/quickshade came off in huge flakes to my horror. The abilityof the bones to take abuse and keep their paint/quickshade on is incredible

Hey thanks Frank. I found out about that site you're talking about just last night (when I was looking for a card game, Android: Netrunner, specifically). I heard nothing but good praises so far and will definitely check them out from time to time. Nevertheless, kudos for tossing me the link my way. ^^

Badocter, I assume those bare spots near the hooves on the first photo came after your bendy test? Despite that, those are some pretty cool shots for those minis. Nicely done.

I've seen some wicked demonstrations, photos and videos, about the "bendability" of the Bones line. Really impressive. I heard a story where a few of them were knocked off a table and onto the concrete floor with nary a mark (and bouncing harmlessly away) whereas if the minis were pewter...

(Looks like the site is getting overloaded now that KS campaign is coming to a wrap. But to be sure I've restarted this computer a few times and hopefully I haven't inadvertently made duplicate posts here.)
