demos question

Recommended Posts

i know yall have some demo teams around the country, could someone chime in and let me know if there is a listing of those people somewhere out on the wild web so that we could find the nearest or is this mostly for the big cons

also what armies are the most common to be used in demos to show the rules of the game off at their fullest.

Reaper has discontinued the Black Lightning demo team program. There are still a handful of us that run events at conventions and hobby shops regardless, but I'm not aware of anyone in Shreveport that does so. I would guess that your closest safe bet would be Reaper's HQ in Denton, TX, especially during ReaperCon.

What gets used for demos varies wildly based on the taste of the person doing the demo. When I started I used my main and secondary factions. Now that I own enough models from pretty much all the factions to demo with whatever I want, I lean towards a) fully painted (as they look nicer than models that aren't), and b) one "traditional" fantasy faction (like knights, elves, dwarves, orcs, whatever) vs. one of the factions that are more unique to Reaper or showcase Reaper's really nice models (like Icingstead, BSGs, Razig, etc.). I do that to show prospective players that Warlord has the familiar fantasy staples (which is comforting), but still its own unique edge (which is cool and exciting).

Also, I usually bring whatever I feel like playing that day, regardless of faction. :;):

There are certainly some factions that favor a finesse approach vs. rank-up-and-fight, but there's plenty of tactical and army building advice to be had here on the forums.

When it comes to army selection, there are really two ways to go about it, and they are related to the type of person/player you are. If you are the kind where appearance matters most, then go with the army that you like most for the sculpts/style/etc. If you are instead the kind that needs to find the army that suits your playing style, then grab whatever minis you already own, slap them on the correct size bases with some poster tack (if they aren't already based correctly), and use them as proxies for the various factions. Try out the ones you think you'll like first. Once you figure it out, then grab the appropriate models to build your army in earnest.

Or, buy and play them all. It works for me. :;):

One of the things we went out of our way to try and make sure we did when working on this game was to give each faction multiple play styles available to them. So, to ask if one faction is easier to learn than the others, the answer is yes and no for every faction, just depending on the mix and match you choose to use within it.

We made it to where the game itself, the mechanics of the game that is, probably takes about 30 minutes to fully learn and master. But, the depth of the game is in the special abilities and the synergies that you can create. That part can take a lot longer to master as you tinker with your lists (and your opponent is doing the same in return). And then we added the element of randomness to throw it all into chaos. The initiative system helps to balance out players as you can play the same game 5-6 times with the same models and come out with totally different results simply because of a card flip here or there that was right for one player at the right time. I have done that. I have pounded a friend before with a good list, then we played the same armies again and he pounded me, simply cause of the card flips (and well of course dice rolling too).

I know this doesnt necessarily help you try o decide on a faction, but I hope it does help with your overall thought process.

In the end, you should pick a faction based on the models that appeal to you, and then start reading their abilities and the synergies you can unlock within them.

thanks for all the answers on all my posts, ive really been wanting to get back into non british minatures games and this looks right. books shipped so i hope to have them in a day or two as im pretty close to reaper.

i know that im going to have to collect at least 2 factions to start with as the guys and gals around here wont buy anything untill we have played it a few times

im gonna look around at the schedules and calandars of places within an easy drive, and see if there is any other warlord going on, might even try to go over to the reaper store, i hear they play there from time to time :)

I suggest that when you start out, keep your forces simple. Start with simple troops of a leader, one, maybe two elites, and only one or two types of soldiers. Solos are pretty fun, so you will want a solo too. With this you can quickly learn the basic mechanics. After that, you can start playing with all the possible combos and pairing up multiple elites to boost your troops power. Exploring all the options available to an army can take some time, and it is a very fun and exciting learing process.
