Storm Giants

I think Reaper does a great job offering a variety of concepts. If you don't like the nuderier ones, there's only several thousand more to choose from. As someone who has worked in a library for 12 1/2 years now, a musician to boot, I have an issue with censorship :) As Bryan points out, it's always appropriate to the mini.

Agreed. I am very much opposed to censorship as well, and have campaigned against it previously. Sadly Ohio lost that battle, but that's not really pertinent to this thread. I feel that if someone doesn't like the more risque models, then there are plenty of other ones to choose from, such as the model Bryan pointed out. Just because one group of people doesn't like it does not mean that another group will hate it as well.

This isn't related to gender, either; there have been several female gamers/painters who have spoken up for this in this thread, and I know that my fiance is looking forward to painting some of the more revealing miniatures she'll be getting from the Kickstarter campaign, and neither of us considered this one as being objectionable. Nudity wasn't an issue at all, the issue was whether the model was fun or not. This storm giant is very fun, as were the other ones she is looking forward to working on.

When we release a figure such as Valloa, those who complained about this didn't come out of the woodwork to support it, and the supporters of the Cloud Giantess don't come out to complain about Valloa. Modest figures get no "pushback".

This is what I was saying earlier. The people who complain about these things don't actually want to be catered to, they want to complain. The supporters of the Cloud Giantess aren't offended that not every model is sexy, while those who do complain are offended by every model that is sexy and have no interest in the models that aren't (because there's nothing to complain about, and again, at the end of the day this is all about making other people listen to them whine).

But we have done some tests. Conversions on the same figure, and released under different part numbers and names have shown that an immodest figure will outsell a more modest version of the same exact figure. A topless version will sell a LOT more, and full nudity will sell even more.

I've suspected that for years, it's nice to hear it confirmed by someone in a position to know.

When we release a figure such as Valloa,

I've never seen her before. I confess that I've lost track of the post-SKU 03000s because, well, it seemed rather a lot of them were getting a bit silly and exaggerated. That's why I've mostly kept to before that SKU number.

But I'm starting to wonder if I've missed a lot because it just so happened that the random times I checked new releases they were ones I didn't like much. Could be all kinds of cool stuff I don't know about.

Also, there might be a lesson in that. When I felt the post sku-3000 minis were drifting away from what DHL was like before (whether this observation was correct or not is irrelevant) I didn't come out and complain about the change towards, uh, more robustly proportioned people. I just dipped into the massive prior catalog to find what I wanted.

I mean, that's the thing here. Only once have I, or anybody I know personally, or even a few beyond that been unable to find a suitable miniature from Reaper. That's an astonishing record of satisfaction.

And the only one I can't get? A not-modron. I've got greenstuff and spare polyhedrals, so I'll prolly just make my own.

Anyway, I'm going to go prowl through Reaper's post-3000 DHL and see what cool things lurk there.

The only way I'd buy that as a mini would be if he was being hit in the face by a large swan.

;)

You mean like here?

(Although, TBH, that kind of thing leaves me cold. I gather some women like it, but meh.)

PS: I have been admiring the Valloa figure for some time.

I didn't keep track of general sales when I worked in a game store, so I have no idea if our store followed that pattern. From casual observation of missing stock, it seemed as if nude miniatures were five fingered a lot more than fully clothed ones. Not sure where someone's head is at that actual theft seems better than being seen to purchase a naked metal figure, but then there are a lot of things I don't understand about people.
