Stubbdog
Not exactly sure what you are looking for in terms of suggestions. So, I can only say that for my inspiration for painting all of my reptus, I watched the movie "Avatar" and went with a myriad of color patterns similar to their flying creatures and less of the real life olive green colors of a real turtle. But that is just me. I will see if I can get a picture of some this weekend.
Metalchaos
Ok, first make sure you removed all flash and mould lines. The worst thing will be to have a mould line crossing the front part of the top shell. Some parts of this Turtle Dragon must be heavy, so make sure everything is solidly fixed. Pinning can sometime be necessary to prevent parts from detaching during manipulation. To complete the preparation, green stuff can help filling the gaps after assembling. I assume this part is done now since you started painting, but it never too late to fix things along the way. Then, you need to paint all the surfaces. Don’t hesitate to add some water to the paint so it will cover all the cracks and gaps. It’s important to have a good base color covering all the mini. As for color ideas, Google image can be a good source of inspiration. I own the old 02516 Tortoise model and I will probable paint it using a sea turtle pallet of colors when the time comes for me to paint it. But, since you intend to add it in you Warlord army, I see tow options. You can ratter paint it using the same color pattern you mainly use to paint the rest of your army, or paint it using a completely different pallet of color so it will stand out as a rare unit. Just like for a regular Dragon, I suggest using a pale color for the belly, more shading but a pale base color. And, a more exotic flashy colourful pattern on top. I nature, sea predator have camouflage color to hide and pass unseen by their prays. That’s why sea turtle belly are paler to adjust to the pale sky color when seen from under and colourful pattern on the top shell so the will look like a stone or coral when seen from above. Other animal and insect bears color to show they are venomous or dangerous; Black Widow, Coral Snake, Poison Dart Frog, Bleu-Ringed Octopus, Lionfish are some of them. It’s the same for most turtle, snakes and lizards. So, the same logic can be follow to choose you colors. Sorry for the exhaustive text, I hope this will help. Metalchaos
Since this model is heavy, you may struggle to find an ergonomically way to paint it. Holding it in your hand can be very tiring. So, another helpful advise would be to paint you Turtle Dragon in two steps. You can first paint all the under part and seal it. This way, you can then turn it back to its feet and paint the upper part. This will help prevent you from getting a tendonitis, and you won’t need to always be careful not to scratch the painted that you already applied on the model. At the very end you can always turn the mini on the side to paint the eyes and complete the hidden parts you missed.
haldir
Not a post for a lack of google-fu but here a myriad of colors. I kinda like the red spotted shell myself https://www.google.com/search?q=sea+turtle&hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1C1AFAB_enUS450US450&prmd=imvns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=VAlBUOugL6iMigLt-oGIDQ&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=1056

Stubbdog
Keep the pictures coming... One suggestion... go ahead and start adding stuff to the base. I find that if I dont get my basing textures done early, I tend to get lazy and not want to do it later.
