All I have to say is wow - I ordered my Ogre last Thurs (Sept. 6) and it arrived today at 10AM. That is a great turn around time.

My mini looks great a small piece of flashing on his shoulder and a mold line here or there but cleanup looks to be minimal. Now I just need to get a few supplies from DickBlick.com and I am good to go.

I'm not sure when my Ogre will arrive. Rough estimate for packages from the US to here is about 2 weeks. Might be sooner. We've got a storm barrelling onto us, so it might take longer. Anyways, I'll post the thread on the 20th whether I've got my Ogres or not. I'll just have to play catch-up. I don't want people who get theirs sooner to expire from overanticipation.

I got my two ogre's in today. I am going to be painting one, and saving one to paint later to compare my improvement in techniques.

I haven't taken them out of the package as that is where I will start up my WIP on the 20th. Can't wait, this will be fun!

We got our 5 yesterday and they all look great.

Just out of curiosity, do we want to wait until the 20th to start on prep-work or can we go ahead and get that out of the way so we are actually ready to put paint on the mini on the 20th?

It's up to you, and whether you think of prep work as part of the project or as a necessary tedium on the way to the project.

There aren't really "rules" for this WIP other than the subject matter. I'm not even cracking the blister until the 20th, but that's cause that's how I work.

The only reason I recommend against actually painting before the 20th is that inevitably people who start/finish early in group builds, etc. feel a bit left out of the fun while everybody else is still going - and people who have to wait on materials feel left out if people start the project early. Ideally this will be a sort of mutual feedback virtual paint table thing, that's my idea anyway, but it might just turn into absolute chaos.

It also appears most, if not all, people will be ready to go before the 20th. I thought about starting it early if that was the case, but decided to stick to the date because people who aren't posting (or even currently around) might not be ready before then, which makes it hardly fair for them.

Point is that it's all about maximizing the fun factor, so if you find prep work fun you can wait. If it drives you bonkers to have to do it, then get it out of the way.

This also serves as sort of a test of the idea before we all get our big box of Bones. Lots of people are excited about different things in Bones, so it might be cool for some group WIPs then. There might be multiple ones for different subjects all starting on, like, April 1st (to give people time to get their box). What works and what doesn't for this one might smooth that process when people decide maybe they'll make a group WIP for NOVA guys, somebody else wants to do the goblins first, somebody else is mad for the sotrm giants, and somebody else (probably me) is doing the cyber-monkey.

So all these questions are good! Even if they make me have to think, which I'm not especially fond of. Stinkin thinkin.
