Low Life Miniatures

Recommended Posts

The last update, from almost three months ago, mentioned that the greens had been returned by Armorcast. No idea what's happening now.

The guy's run 12 Kickstarters since the one for the miniatures and organised 5 of his Corn on the Cob events, I expect the reason the miniatures are taking so long is that his efforts are directed elsewhere.

While I understand what you're saying, everything at this point that goes into fulfilling this KS is taking away from his business. Bottom line is, the KS failed and the only reason it's continuing is because Andy is trying to be a stand-up guy about things. Most others would have said 'tough luck, it didn't work out'.

It's not like we're talking about someone independently wealthy (afaik), or with a large corporation. He's a small businessman in a niche of a niche industry. So it's hard for me to fault the guy for putting his time, effort and money toward things that actually pay the bills. And, because he's trying to be stand-up about it, also pays for any remaining stuff we may see from this KS.

So I cheer Andy on for every other endeavor he takes on, because that just makes it more likely that he'll have enough spare change to continue his attempts to follow through on this KS. Asking for a refund makes that less likely and is a middle finger to all other backers, to be honest.

I'm not sure if you have private correspondence with Andy. Do you know the money's gone? Do you know he's still trying to get things done?

One thing is certain, he is not communicating with the backers. It's just common courtesy to let backers know what's going on.

I paid $500 for the 'All the Minis Ever' pledge. For that $500 I've received 17 miniatures (add shipping and customs fees and that comes to about $32 each), and there's a real chance I won't be getting the remaining miniatures from the kickstarter, any 'future' miniatures, or the 4 limited edition models. I can live with this, I've backed several KS duds and received nothing. Andy treating his backers with contempt is annoying.

One of the folk on my facebook feed has posted these he's casting for Andy,

not sure if they're ones backers have seen already, but it seems promising that something is happening

"John Popson Chad Hoverter sculpted these for one of the Low Life Kickstarters. I am helping get these cast for Andy Hopp. I think the budget was a bit too low for the number of awesome dudes in this project.1f641.png"

Still kicking!

Hello friends,

John Popson of Effincool Minis asked me to share these words with you to give you an idea of where we currently stand. Real progress is finally being made and I share John's belief that the end is in sight.

------------------------------------

Hello Low Life Backers Id like to introduce myself to you all. My name is John Popson and I own Effincool Miniatures. We are a full mold making and miniature casting facility with a pretty solid track record for Kickstarter fulfillment. I know that you are upset, and with with very good reason. This project has gone way too long without fulfilling. When Andy and I first started talking about working together to get this done I took a hard look at this project. There are some serious faults in the finances of the project, that are not in any real way Andy Hopp's fault. Andy Hopp is not a miniature manufacturer, he is however a super talented creative force, and you all backed this because you love his artwork and the prospect of having these images done as miniatures was a great draw.

The major flaw in this Kickstarter is that Andy trusted the word of another guy who owned a "miniatures company". This miniatures company does not produce miniatures in the sense that we at Effincool do. They paid other people to do all of the work, and organized projects-3 of which are still currently unfulfilled as well. This decision put this Kickstarter in the place of not collecting nearly enough money to cover the scope of the miniatures promised. While Andy accepts the responsibility for this, I think you can all see that there is more than a bit of shared blame in it.

Where are we at today? Effincool has made arrangements with Andy to fulfill this Kickstarter at a substantially lower cost than is really feasible. We have the molds of all of the miniatures that have been produced so far, and we have pressed new molds for many pieces that have yet to be released.

Why would we do that you might ask?--because we believe!! We believe just like you all did that this is a really great set of miniatures and concepts. We are working through the greens that are available and also trying to come up with a strategy to sculpt the things that have not been sculpted and get those into production as well. I know this is asking a lot of you, but we just need some more time and patience on your part. I promise you all that together we will get this project back on track and fulfilled.

This week we are headed to Gary Con in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. If any of you are headed to the con please stop by and chat. We can talk a bit more in depth about this Kickstarter and what we are going to do to get it done!

Thanks for all of the patience you have already shown and for any you may choose to show in the future.

John Popson Effincool Miniatures.

Fingers crossed for you guys, this might well mean people can actually get stuff

(I follow John Popson/Effincool Miniatures on facebook where they are active and you can see stuff actually being sculpted, mastered, cast and shipped to people so as he says all the experience/skills are available 'in house')

I'm pretty happy with this development. As I said on KS, not only do I want my stuff, I'm hopeful this line of minis will be available to the public at some point, completely unconnected to Mick.

An update form Andy Hopp. Incredibly, 7 years after it was launched, this campaign is still limping along and Andy is still trying to deliver it. I'm grateful to him for hanging in there but also a little cynical that the 'further delayed' updates tend to coincide with the launch of a new kickstarter.

Another update, a year after the last (making it 8 years since the kickstarter - maths). Vague promises about completion........and whaddya know, it coincides with another kickstarter being released by Mr Hopp.

You'd think someone would be blocked from starting anything new with something that old left to fulfill.

Surely people aren’t dumb enough to back another Kickstarter by the same guy. I’m also highly surprised that Kickstarter would allow someone to create a Kickstarter when they haven’t delivered on one from 7 years ago. I expect it will get shut down before it ends.

Kickstarter don't have much of a track record when it comes to protecting backers. Here's my response from them regarding the new project, which I reported:

We’ve investigated and determined that it doesn’t violate our rules or community guidelines. If you believe there is an issue that’s not covered by our rules or guidelines, please contact us with more details.

If you haven’t already, you can also communicate directly with the project creator.

While we won’t be taking action on this project at this time, we value your input. We rely on reports like yours to ensure the safety and integrity of Kickstarter for everyone.

Thanks again for looking out for the Kickstarter community.

Best,
Kickstarter Trust & Safety

      About
Welcome to Black Hallows, where light and dark wrestle for control, where travelers must be on their guard as even the most innocent looking old woman could be hiding a secret... let us introduce you to the Townsfolk of Black Hallows.
The Townsfolk is a range of 14 non-player character miniatures, crafted from the highest grade, lead free Pewter (This quality of metal is normally only used for masters). They are available in either 28mm or 32mm and will come with their own base toppers and plastic bases. They are ideal for use in role playing games like D&D, Pathfinder, etc. Use them in your war games or collect and paint them for display.
28mm miniatures have 25mm plastic bases and 32mm miniatures have 32mm plastic bases.
We are also offering any of the characters in a 75mm resin version (see below). 75mm resin versions have a cast resin plinth.
All of the manufacture will be done in-house at Z1 Design, which means as soon as the first batch is ready, we can ship. So early backers can expect early delivery. We will deliver in order of backer number and it is possible that we will ship the first batch before Christmas.
The future of Black Hallows -
We are currently working on further characters including both townsfolk and hero characters. The main Black Hallows game is scheduled for release in 2019. This will include 4 factions and the option of an extensive range of scenery and buildings.
We also have an author working on the Novel of Black Hallows.
We have an exciting year ahead of us!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MAIN BLACK HALLOWS GAME TO BE RELEASED IN 2019 WILL USE 32mm MINIATURES
      75mm Resin Miniatures
All of the Townsfolk are available at 75mm cast in resin. Centrifugal cast in a high quality polyurethane resin.
Just add £18 per miniature to your pledge. You can choose as many as you like from the full range.
Or you can pledge for the Collectors/ Painters Pledge which includes all 15 miniatures (including the Druid) for £240

      Painted Samples
The 75mm Blacksmith painted by Angel Giraldez
Here we have the Druid & the Farmer's daughter painted by Elias Alonso
We have to say a big thanks to Alfonso Prieto and Elias Alonso from Beholder factory for working with us to create this project.

      About
Welcome to our second Black Hallows Kickstarter campaign. With the lead up to the main game later this year, we are now expanding the range and have the following on offer.
      28mm, 32mm and 75mm character miniatures
      Horses & carts
The first two buildings for the world of Black Hallows (the first of many)
The Black Hallows: Cradle of Darkness novel
      RPG content
...and of course, there are many stretch goals to unlock during the campaign.
Early Backers Special FREE Model - The iron cage - Limited to the first 300 main pledges only
i.e. The Townsfolk II pledge or the Tavern Pledge or above.
      (£45 or more)
Welcome to the world of Black Hallows on this bitterly cold night, the wind is howling outside "The Boar's Head" tavern, the horses are restless in the stables, and a figure moves in the shadows...is it friend or foe? The Townsfolk are sleeping soundly in their beds, unaware of the danger that may be creeping towards them. The clouds race across the sky, and the wind continues to howl.
The Townsfolk II is the second set in a range of non-player character miniatures, crafted from the highest grade, lead free Pewter (This quality of metal is normally only used for masters).
We will be using Backerkit as our pledge manager after the campaign ends. If you wish to pledge for add-ons, add the funds to your main pledge on Kickstarter and then inform us of your choice using the pledge manager.
Let us introduce you to the characters in the Townsfolk II.
Gazamunder is the town's resident rat catcher; with him the only thing you can ever be sure of is that you can never be sure of him. Need information? It's yours at a price. Need information that's actually true? It'll cost you twice as much. Plookes, his faithful ratter, is the only living soul that he cares about.
Yarog's life has been an interesting one and if he could be persuaded to speak of it, the tales would certainly entertain the travelers that stop at the Boar's Head. He was raised in the far north, to a clan famed for their engineering prowess, destined to one day be their leader. However, Yarog always knew he wanted something different from life, something that he could get his teeth into. He left the safety and tradition of home and set off to find adventure and a really good recipe for tripe.
Garot the Butcher, cold and unfeeling, like the carcasses that surround him. Butchery comes naturally to him and at times he enjoys his job a little too much. Hacking and slashing with relish, no wonder the other townsfolk only visit his shop in pairs!
Mace & Ridley live by the saying "They who drink beer will think beer!" and as the towns only brewers, they take their work very seriously and do a lot of "thinking".Which explains the slightly glazed expression, the unsteadiness of balance and the bouts of raucous singing. No one quite knows how they make a living from brewing their famous ale, but they're never short of cash, even when they do appear to drink all the profit!
The fine silks, sumptuous linens, and exotic velvet speak of wealth and power and Nikolai Magnus cultivates the illusion of being a successful textile merchant very well, but everyone knows cloth isn't the real source of his income. He is a loan shark of the most cold-blooded type.
You wouldn't think it to look at him,  sat hunched on his cart, but there's a lot more to Rawkin than meets the eye. There aren't many places he hasn't been and there's not much he hasn't seen or done. He knows pretty much every living being on the dirt roads from here to where the soil becomes the sea.
Add-Ons: The Hero Characters £6 (Each)
Kindra Whispersong was called to service by her God as a young girl. The divine magic that glows in her eyes and the powers that accompany it, has led her into many adventures and battles that most of the townsfolk could never imagine. She never speaks of her quest; that is between her and her deity.
The tranquil, dignified air of Awyn Moonbinder only hints at the power, the energy and the skill that lies beneath his tanned skin and within his toned muscles. His spiritual training allows him to harness the power of the Hallows. He is a unique being, born on the furthest plains. Maybe that is why he feels at home as a lone wanderer, only ever passing through the village when he's returning to the monastery.
Gulm, though his distinctively Orkish features cause many to shy away from him, he was raised by a loving human mother and like the stone he works, the sharp edges of his Ork personality have been smoothed. His strength and savagery are channeled through the tools he uses, making him the most sought after stonemason in the town.
