02151 Starmane the Unicorn

Recommended Posts

Here is Starmare the Unicorn. It was my entry in the Summer of Monsters painting contest.

This model was sculpted by Sandra Garrity. C&C are welcome!

Thanks! It was hard getting this purple shading. I’m not totally had pleased with how it turned out. I had to apply many white glazes over the purple shading because it was too radical. I happy you like it!

Incredible job! I must avoid my little girl seeing this or she'll want me to paint one up exactly like it.

If I painted one of these for one of my nieces, I'd have to add a little mark on the flanks, and I'd probably be asked to paint the mane in some strange color to correspond to a particular character from a popular kids' cartoon featuring diminutive equines. ;)

So, I recently purchased the "Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments Monsters Paint Set". Came with a bunch of Army Painter washes and paints and yadda yadda yadda...

But it also came with this neat Owlbear mini, which is what I have to share with you guys today!

First eyes I ever successfully painted. But in my defense, I'd only ever tried on minis with smallish eyes, which was NOT the brightest idea I'd ever had. The left eye turned out really good in my opinion, but the right one was a bit messy.

I also need to do so me touch-up work on the base. I got a bit careless with the wash, and uh... Yeeeeah.

Lastly and leastly, I didn't upload an outdoor picture as I usually do. That'll probably come later, provided I don't forget.

Matthias the Twisted was insanely fun to paint, he's definitely  one of my favorite undead models, and one of Bobby Jackson's more eerie characters.
Despite it being the bane to Castlevania fans everywhere, i took inspiration for the hunter from Simon off of the cover of the Castlevania 2 box art. What a game haha. Sorry for the pictures being a bit blurry, but C&C is surely appreciated.

Here is the cyclops from the Bones 4 Cave Dwellers stretch goal. This a really nice figure and casting. I've been committed to working through by core set and I'm still only about 25% in. Man do you get a lot of figures in that KS!

This colour scheme was also inspired by artwork found on Pinterest. I finished this in a day working on it along side my griffon.

I was all set the tackle this with a standard eagle-lion look with shades of brown when I found a great drawing of a griffon in blue which inspired the colour scheme. I did this relatively quickly - it was started and finished today.
