Making it Swiss... works for me.

It will mean cutting down on some of the grime that I had envisioned, as I think that the Swiss would be more likely to keep it polished than to boil everything in linseed oil. It would more likely gleam.

The Auld Grump

No no, grime is great! okay imagine this thing has been at the bottom of the ocean stalking about outside the gates of Cthulhu's crypt... The gears, being brass (and enchanted like a mofo) as well as the Elder Shields would be in perfect working condition. The various plated sections could be corroded, covered in barnacles and seaweed, etc.

Now I really wish I had ordered two... factory fresh and Ancient Mariner version!

When drybrushing the 'yellow' metals like brass or bronze or gold, I like to put it over a brown base.

I'm just about at the point of doing the metallics on the Ogre. Brown or black for base coating under copper, assuming I'll leave a bit at the edges exposed?

I'd do a dark brown basecoat. If you try it and it doesn't work for you, you can always redo it with a black undercoat. Not overly much metal on that guy anyway.

I'll give it a shot. It's all warm metals, so brass/copper/gold.

Last Knight, that's why I ordered two, for a shiny and an aged one. Or a warm and cool metal. Or...it was difficult keeping it to two.

And now I'm thinking maybe one of my Cthulhus could go toward a diorama with the sunken version of Vernacloxenbooty....

This is one of those rare times when I might actually... wait for it... paint a miniature (for myself). I think I can do a pretty good job on the clockwork dragon, and I've got some gears and stuff laying around from an exchange I did a few years back. A little conversion work, followed by a weathered paint job with some verdigris. Yeah, I can do that. ::):
