IA! IA!

Very cool. Im not quite sure whats up with the big seam on his belly, but it looks like it would be easy enough to patch over with green stuff even for an amateur like me if you didnt like it. Now Im just wishing Id put him in my pledge.

I was actually just thinking about that...

"Why are you wearing that stupid elder God suit?"

"WHY ARE YOU WEARING THAT STUPID WOOD ELF SUIT?"

I'm wondering why the belly has a seam that belongs on a leather plush doll. The only reason I can think of a critter would have a seam like that was shown in the final scene from Peter Jackson's Braindead / Dead Alive. And that is something I'd rather not think about! ::o:

Also concerned the cool skin vents might be missing. Overall, I'm happy with the transition, even if it needs some greenstuff crack spackling. Also noticed the sculptor made big C a bit fatter that the concept art... very nice!

While I am insanely grateful for the WIP picture I'm forced to agree with Frankthedm.

I fully understand that the sheer weight of a sculpture like that can seriously limit the dynamic possibilities of such a creature. As far as the 'vents'? I'm not entirely sure those were to be sculpted details or simply imply skin-based markings (a detail meant to be painted). That being said I would share that I'd been expecting a LOT more texture to the smooth surfaces. The saggy skin is outstanding but a tad too smooth.

If what we see is the final production model, with a cost of $10 per unit, then I can say I am completely satisfied.

#1: This model will need to be assembled which gives me the chance to make adjustments to his pose to better suit my expectations.

#2: Any texture I feel is needed to give the smoother parts more character I can EASILY sculpt on myself at that scale. Failing that I can achieve the same effect with a proper paint job.

Well, the ventral "seam" was my call, based on some images of theropods and the like. But I see now that it was an unpopular design choice; my apologies.

P.T. Barnum was only partly right - turns out you can't please anybody, any of the time.

Well, I can't say for 'everybody', but, yeah, I was hoping for something closer to the concept art.

For $10 this is fine, for full price... it would depend on that price.

Hopefully this is not the final production model, while it is okay, it could be better. As it is, it would just be an armature that I will have to customize myself.

*EDIT* And it may look considerably closer to the art when turned in the same direction, making direct comparison easier.

*EDIT 2* And since I forgot - thanks for the WiP picture - while not entirely pleased with the result I am happier knowing what is likely coming out at the end of the pipe.

Is this a WIP or the final prototype?

If that detail was born of research into creature of similar biology I say leave it. Crack sensitive patrons can greenstuff away. Me? I'm planning on adding the faces and outstretched hands of the souls Big C has already consumed to his ventral fault line.

That being said I would advise just a little more texture to the large smooth areas.

EDIT: I would also like to extend my sympathies to the guy who was tasked with sculpting that thing. I can only imagine the pressure of having to create something based on ONE drawing that will be capable of satisfying the better part of 18,000 people across the entire planet. My hat is most definitely off to you, sir, and if you are at ReaperCon I am definitely buying you a drink.

Well I at least like the ventral seam. Fits the look and feel well in my opinion.

Me too! It really drives home the alien nature of Cthulhu, who is too often just rendered as a man's body with wings and an octopus for a head. My one complaint is really that the body doesn't have enough interesting design features, like the little rings and ridges on the concept art.

Also, people have been saying that this is a WIP, but is there actual official confirmation of that anywhere? I don't see any evidence that this isn't the final product; Reaper hasn't put out any other unfinished sculpts thusfar.

I like the seam,

easy to remove if you don't like it

the wings are very good too, nice and rudimentary

and I always saw the 'dots' as skin markings, not vents anyway

I am definitely excited for it, and my avatard means that counts treble!

When I saw the sculpt I thought of this tut over at handcannon:

Don't pay too much attention to the critics; PT was pretty bang on. It's just tough when you're hearing your art get beat up on to hear the folks who are ecstatic about it.
