jlblack
I could manage a freehanding of some kind but the question is: of what? Gears. Binary patterns. The yellow sign. Wow. Last thing I expected on this thread was to be reminded of driving up PCH from San Diego to L.A. I miss California.

Moderator Darsc Zacal Posted October 25, 2012 Moderator Share Posted October 25, 2012 Well, the ventral "seam" was my call, based on some images of theropods and the like. But I see now that it was an unpopular design choice; my apologies. P.T. Barnum was only partly right - turns out you can't please anybody, any of the time. But why does C'Thulhu have to be in that sexy stripper pose? And that third tentacle from the left isn't at an awkward angle at all. It looks much too natural and comfortable... I'M JOKING! I'M JOKING! Don't hate me Talin. C'Thulhu made me do it. I succumbed to a moment of madness. :o

Adrift
I wouldn't change a thing about the C'Thulhu. It literally made me exclaim "sweet jesus" out loud. In a quiet ICU, that exclamation carries....
burnsides
Is there any way the C'thulhu might come with some accessories? Like for instance, an all denim non-Euclidian toga, a giant necrotic bottle of otherworldly cyclopean beer? Maybe some eldritch antedeluvian flip-flops? How about a porkpie hat with a little chin strap with brass snaps on the ends ? If the flip flops are a bad idea, then how about vintage 70's dingo boots? A big leaf blower? I think it looks great BTW, especially for only $10.
burnsides
Well since the ventral seam is based on theropod design, let's see an angle that shows us how it interacts with the tail. If it gives off a good dinsoaur vibe then it might be a good addition to get that "dragon" part accentuated alongside the more famous man, squid, talon, and tiny wing parts. burnsides
http://www.kickstart...in/posts/335323 The Cthulhu sculpt is seen! It cannot be unseen. Meh. At least give Harmony Gold a chance before you write them off! They can make almost anything unseen if you give them enough time(Battletech joke)
Shakandara
wah wah wah wah... Kevin, Tim: I've got zero use for a C'thulhu, and I bought in anyway based on Tim's art. Kevin's sculpt earned a "HFS!" (words that cannot be repeated here) when I saw it. I like it. The people that don't can bite me. And if you take offense to that, you can bite me twice. ~v
hairrorist
So the good news is that the head is fantastic. A fearsome countenance that commands respect! However... that body... needs some more work. 1) The Ventral Seem This would be fine if the rest of the body had more detail, but that seem is the only really noticeable detailing, and that makes it stick out like a sore thumb. Its so smooth everywhere else that it ends up looking like he's stuffed inside of a rubber wetsuit and that seem is the zipper. You guys really nailed the look of leathery skin. Its something that always comes out looking too smooth or too wrinkly, but the skin here looks like it feeeels like leather. Which would be great on a dragon, or a wing, but here it just makes that seem really pop. There was a lot more going on in that area in the concept art. More textures and knobblies and whatnots. So the seem was a good fit. A neat detail among many friends. You heartless bastards have left this poor detail all alone! He's sad. Give him some company! The smaller Mythos demon is an amazing sculpt with great texturing! Gnab some ideas from that one, just don't leave him alone. 2) The socketing of the legs These look like the sockets for poseable dinosaur action figures. Doesn't look natural at all. The blubbery, draping skin is a great concept, and I like that take on Cthulhu, but that isn't what blubbery draping skin looks like. Pull up some more pictures of lizards, salamanders, newts, octopi and squiddies. 3) The Gut This actually wouldn't be a problem at all if more detail was added to that whole area. It's just too barren as pictured. Is this the finalized model? Is it too late to rethink the body? Can this model be shuffled to the end of production? I really think that if you took the time to make another draft you'll have a much better product in the end--a big model like Cthulhu that isn't going to sell in stores isn't good for anyone.
Adrift
All I want with this C'Thulhu mini is a base filled with bones, skulls, and other wastelands images fit for this King!!!
Hatemonger
I like the sculpt, but I'm not as impressed as I was with the concept art. I like the leathery, elephant skin. I'm fine with "not functional in our sense of physics" wings. I think I'd prefer it without the the gut seam, but it doesn't bother me. It just looks like some bizarre creature trait to me, just like if it had bony ridges, or spines, or I dunno, a giant tentacle face. The thing that bothers me is the pose. I was worried the "looking backwards" head in the concept art was going to be too strange to make a good gaming model, but the current pose is just too static for my liking. It's mostly the arms. They're both hanging out to the sides purposelessly - it reminds me too much of a common shambling-zombie stance. That doesn't convey a sense of impressive otherwordly being, it just looks like he doesn't know to to walk properly. I also agree somewhat with hairrorist's points, but for me, if you altered the angle of either arm by dropping it closer to the body, I think it would go miles toward fixing the pose. - H8
Niranth
I first saw the Cthulhu picture on my phone and was just a little disappointed. Then I looked at it on my PC and the disappointment evaporated. I'd like to see pictures from different angles and one picture of it unassembled. I debated on whether to add one and I am now glad that I did!
Hellcow
I was really hesitant about 'pulling the trigger' and getting 2 C'thulhus. I have never had a miniature of Big C and really want to paint one to give to my friend as a wedding present (and have one for myself!) . After seeing this sculpt I'm sad i ordered 2. I should have gotten 3!!!!! This is just amazing - the sculptor nailed all the main aspects of C'thulhu that were important to me - small wings, flabby, huge, creepy looking. C'mon March!!!!
