KS new sculpts

Big Cthulhu came to me in a dream last night and said he likes the seam, it breaks up the vastness of his belly. The scupting of the face is outstanding! Although he would like some more texture on his belly, some boils, barnacles or something, but not if it will slow down production or shipping. IA IA !

I think people may be thrown off by having him standing since most pictures have him squatting and not having his belly and chest exposed (I like the standing pose).

I think Im getting an extra one. In the extra one his undersea crypt was destroyed over time and he was sitting exposed on the sea floor, but still unable to escape because the stars were not right. He will be somewhat covered in barnacles and tube worms with fishing nets caught on him and an anchor imbedded in his shoulder with its rusty chain wrapped around him.

I like C'thulhu. In fact, for the price of $10, I don't even have a good reason to complain about anything: 1) I couldn't envision, design, draw, sculpt, or finalize something like this...ever; 2) So what if there's a seam, that's what a dremel and green stuff is for if you deem plastic surgery (I pun!) necessary; 3) It's frelling massive! For 10 bucks! Complain why?; 4) Its' a Reaper C'thulhu! Yay! We actually have one anyone can afford and obtain! Did I mention the $10 KS order price?

Honestly, I was not going to order a C'thulhu originally. The KS closed and I had not ordered one. It nagged at me,and I kept going back to the KS page to stare at the concept sketch. Then, the RPM went live and I started rethinking things: How could I be so foolish as to NOT order something like that, at least once in my life? I don't have an immediate use for it, but then I started thinking about the Far Realm (for D&D) and that I *could* be in a C'thulhu game in the future, and I gave in.... 10 bucks seemed like a price too small to not become the owner of a massive madness-inducing replica of an Life-devouring deity. I added the money to my total without a second thought, believing that a C'thulhu half as good as the concept sketch would be awesome. I get better than I expected. Again, I have no complaints. Thank you, Reaper!

If *we* don't particularly like these models, then neither will other hobbyists.

It's a well-known fact that hobbyists only buy minis I like.

He's talking about models, you are talking about minis. Completely different.

I am the very model of a mini Major-General,

I've information vegetable, animal, and mineral...

Random... sorry.

As a former musician, I've dated several models. At one point I was actually doing some runway modeling myself. One such occasion was after a party we played that many of the models attended. One particular luscious lush went directly off the front end of the runway into the audience. It was pretty funny.

So yes, I was talking about minis. Actually, I think that same model who took a header off the runway once crashed a Mini. She went through a good half dozen cars that I know of.

What were we talking about again? You've just been 'thulhu'd!

This is not an official response, however, I can tell you the following:

1. Details drawn in to concept art do not always translate into sculpture. Some details are not practical to sculpt, while others may be intended to give a 2D object depth that does not need to be added to a 3D sculpture that will ultimately receive paint.

2. In all the time I've been here, I've never seen a WIP released to the general public that was not labeled as such. C'thulhu wasn't labeled a WIP; it is reasonable safe to assume that what you see is the finished model.

3. I only know of one miniature that was changed because of public opinion (the Reptus Brood of Payanak); it was originally mounted on an alligator, which didn't fit the datacard or the faction fluff for the model in Warlord. That mount was still released, and Kevin sculpted a new wingless dragon mount for it.

4. A vocal minority does not necessarily represent the entire population.

You are welcome to dislike the sculpt, and I understand those with frustrations about spending money on something that they are not thrilled with. However, expecting Reaper to alter a finished model to meet the desires of a few people just isn't reasonable. The sculpt isn't crap; if it were, it would have never made it past Reaper's art director (whom I trust to have a whole lot more experience of what is quality work and what isn't when it comes to miniatures than the majority of forum goers).

The model ain't gonna change; time to build a bridge and get over it.

Why doesn't he have a bow? I wanted a c'thulhu with a bow!

Seriously, I saw this when it was being worked on. It was far less finished than this and I'd have given buglips last stanky shoe for it right there on the spot. I think in person it has a lot of charisma that the picture isn't capturing.

And if the way it looks make you mad... well that's c'thulhu, baby!

There is a sad difference between 'mad' and 'disappointed'.

I will be able to use the figure as is as an armature, but I will be disappointed if I have to.

*Shrug*

The Auld Grump, nI wish the Sota toys 'Thulhu were still available, to show as a comparison....

*EDIT* Found a picture -

sota-cthulhu-2.jpg

Also made from plastic, around 2008 or so.

In my opinion though that's a horrible version of Cthulu, I'd have been very dissapointed in a model that looked like that. I think it's mostly the 'hair' tentacles and feet.

Agreed. If you want to pull a cool "toy" cthulhu, you have to go to the Horror Clix one. Now that is a nice cthulhu...

From my count the Big C has more supporters than trolls. That bridge is pretty much built AND big enough for the big guy himself to cross it. Cultists Fans or not, we'll all be consumed. Arguing at this point is pretty much just for sport. ::D:
