Hell On Earth is Coming

I've gone ahead and asked about Canadian shipping on their site, as well as whether or not they have any sculptors already lined up. I suspect, on the latter, that it's up to Reaper, and won't be determined until the final numbers come in. On the other hand, I have pretty high confidence in Reaper's ability to pick good artists for each concept.

This is an odd one.

No greens and no indication of who the sculptor(s) will be. Yet all mini's, including those unlocked by future stretch goals, are planned for a single shipment to backers in January. That seems like a pretty fast turnaround.

It's also unclear exactly how involved Reaper will be in the production of these minis. Will they simply be doing the casting? Will Reaper be providing the sculptors? Will Reaper be selling it themselves as well? I know Reaper will be casting the Bombshell Babes metal mini's for Patrick from his kickstarter, but they weren't involved in the sculpting process and won't be selling them either.

And as has already been mentioned, the delivery charge is pretty hefty to Canada.

I watched their kickstarter video, thinking I'd get the info I was looking for. No such luck. Waste of time. It was just a cartoon that I guess they were trying to use to build up interest for their game background.

It didn't work for me. I'm only interested in the minis and I need some more hard facts before they have any chance at getting any of my money.

Most project creators who are starting out a new business without any previous retail presence create an online store to sell their products after the kickstarter is over. However there's really no clear indication if that's the case with this project.

Well, they have retail presence (as well as an online store). They've been making RPGs for years. While Pinnacle's not as big as, say, Paizo, their Savage Worlds line is one of the more popular systems available right now. But their minis are all created and sold through Reaper. They don't have packaging for miniatures of their own, nor do they have distribution channels that presently handle that sort of merchandise. Since they reference the existing infrastructure, it likely means that Reaper will be handling all of that. I'm ninety-five percent sure Reaper will also be doing all the sculpting, since it doesn't make sense for Pinnacle to handle that.

But I do agree that this is information that ought to be on their main page.

Even to somewhere like Australia the actual shipping costs would only be about $13-$18 for 4 figures. Possibly less. Thats how much I've been quoted to get shipped quite a few more minis that that..

$25 seems more than a little profit on the side.

The $25 also covers shipping a hardcover rulebook, which is probably quite a bit heavier than the minis, as well as possibly including whatever stretch goals get unlocked that you choose to add.

If you don't want the rulebook and just the 4 minis though it's still $25. The shipping cost effectively means that anyone outside the US pledging at the Waster or Road Warrior level has to add on several stretch goals to make it worthwhile. It may look reasonable down the line if/when a lot more minis are available (and if an international pledger wants those figures) but at this point it's a pretty big psychological hurdle to get over.

Not all the pledge levels featuring that $25 delivery charge include a rule book. As for covering the delivery cost of add-ons, why should backers have to pay an inflated delivery price to cover something that they might not even order? Wouldn't it be fairer to start with a lower delivery charge and have it increase as additional items are included?

All the pledge levels have the same delivery charge though, which is probably more for the sake of simplicity for them than it is trying to scam you out of money.

Is it fair? Not really, no. It is understandable though.

By the way, I'm not in the states either, so if I do back this I'll have to pay the extra as well.

The main reason I haven't backed it yet is that there's no real idea what the finished sculpts are going to look like apart from a cartoon style concept drawing.

Hi gang,

Thread was pointed out to me, and I thought I'd try to help address concerns. I'm Clint from Pinnacle, and I'm working as the "liaison" with Studio 2 on this Kickstarter. I may not know all the answers offhand, but I hope to be able to find them for you.

First off, the Canadian question. It has been confirmed (and FAQ'd) that shipping to Canada will only be an extra $15 not $25 as for overseas shipping. Wish we could offer free shipping like Reaper, but we aren't the direct manufacturer and add that on top of offering an already lower cost on the minis than they will be after release, it's just too tight. To be clear, neither of these additional costs cover anywhere near the entire cost for the shipping Studio 2 uses. Basically, it's getting shipping at half the normal cost or less. And yeah, the goal was simplicity even though it really burns them; they really aren't going to use a lower cost shipping and make any money off this.

Studio 2 is a fulfillment house, and the deal with Reaper is like the one they make with publishers. Reaper will handle the sculpts and production, but all the product will be carried by Studio 2 once completed. So the minis will not be available through Reaper directly.

I know the greens are being worked on for the initial minis, and I think the first one may be going up tomorrow on the Kickstarter site. Don't quote me on that, but I think it's pretty likely.

Hope that helps! If you have any other questions, just let me know.

@PEGClint - thank you for taking the time to post here and address some of our concerns and queries. Looks like I'll be waiting for some of the greens to be shown before I can decide on this kickstarter.

My pleasure. And I hope you like what we've got coming. One of the nice aspects of Hell On Earth as a setting is it allowed us to do some new original designs for minis where hopefully some of them could be viable for settings other than Hell On Earth or even just post-apocalyptic games. I'm really hoping we have some minis that will provide cool options for modern, cyberpunk, sci-fi, and even some Western games.

Hey Clint, thanks for the update.

I am a little confused over some of the "a la carte" options, mostly to do with non-goal miniatures and goal miniatures.

What is the difference between the two? Are stretch goal miniatures non-goal or goal?

If the stretch goal miniatures are goal miniatures, then what are the non-goal ones?

Hi Mistwalker,

That was answered in the comments of the Kickstarter.

As far as the A La Carter system goes, the only two Exclusive minis are Hellstromme and Stone. The "Bonus Goal" minis are specials we have planned outside the normal Stretch Goals as extra additions should we hit some milestones during the Kickstarter. Those minis will be specifically noted as Bonus Goal miniatures when they release. All those minis fall in the $10 add-on group.

The Templar and the Librarian in the core set plus any Stretch Goal minis that are "Rescued" fall in the $6 add-on group. All the Stretch Goal minis can be added once we hit the goal listed on the their banner and they will then be noted as "Rescued."
