Going Native:Warpath Kickstarter (Paymaster Games)

Recommended Posts

I am also new to this site, what does PoC stand for?

People of Color

----

I dig this project, and will probably pick up any Pacific Northwest figures you make eventually (been wanting those for years), but I'm all kickstartered out for the rest of the year at least. Too many companies doing them in too short a time span.

(ETA: Kinda hate the name of the game though. "Going Native?" That's a bit...eh. I don't want to say its racist, but its a little racist.)

New update on the campaign page

As we Progress, it is time for another update. This update is to the Aztec Triple Alliance War Party Starter kit. The Spirit Beast that comes with that kit is the Ahuizotl Otter.

Cryptozoologists believe the Ahuizotl Otter was once the largest Otter that has ever lived in North America and was native to the lakes and streams of Mesoamerica. According to the myths of the Aztecs and the other groups in Mesoamerica, The Ahuizotl Otter had a hand on its tail and often attacked and drowned people that wandered it to deep water. According to the logs of Christopher Columbus, he encountered one as it attack and killed a rather ill-tempered Spanish boar.

The planned size of this beast is about 20mm to 25mm at the withers and will be mounted on a new style 40mm round base.

Thanks Guys

See you next update.

What do you guys think?

i never thought about it. I need to look into it. I will get back to you.

Awesome! I bet I'm not the only one who would pledge for singles, especially if you created add-on prices for them. I could also see getting a set of just the spirit beasts being desirable, as well as the Skinwalkers (once they get unlocked), as either their own pledge and/or as an add-on

The term "Going Native" was used by the US military and other officials to describe any one who took the Indians side during any conflict. I would say that the term is respectful, and not the other way around.

That may be the case but I doubt most people know that and I've seen the same comments on other forums as we've had here so you may want to inform people on your KS introduction as to what the name actually means. Best not to assume everyone knows what you do in this case.

Also you REALLY need to get lists of what will actually be in your box sets up. I'm dumbfounded that this many people have pledged for something that is essentially a blank box filled with randomness--though I suspect many people are just placing those pledges as placeholders. This should be a lot quicker than one character\monster concept art every few days too.

Seriously this make me really concerned, and I can't be the only one, that this KS wasn't very well planned out and that you may not be organized enough to deliver. That's a harsh statement but I do like where you're going with this concept but I need to know that I wouldn't just be throwing my money in to the wind.

According to the KS page, each Starter Kit will contain a six-man warrior unit, a six-man ranged/missile warrior unit, one Spirit Animal, one War Chief, and one Officer. The Pacific Northwestern war party is used as an example.

And as for the name, I'll admit I was a little perplexed at first too, but my initial fears were put to rest by the obvious care and attention paid to the myths and cultures of the groups portrayed.

I suppose I would like to see more frequent updates too, but it's not nearly enough of a difference to make me worry about their ability to deliver. The fact that they started out with the amount of art and the number of greens they did bodes very well, I think.

Ahh, I see. I was looking at the image below that list that shows everything as "Possible contents" of a box.

That doesn't change the fact that I still don't know what any of that means as there's no art as what I my think should be in there is different then everyone else. People complain about the greens not looking like the concept art and right now people are pledging on what they hope the concept art might look like--not a good thing.

The proverbial gun was jumped as this was made too early if there isn't concept art for what's being offered--not having this is also probably keeping them from getting as many pledges. I'm pretty sure he'd be way over 5k by now if these were offered from the get go.

Ok this goes out to MonkeySloth. This KS was planned for months. What i did not have was the money to get all of the art that I had for the Aztec and Northwest War Parties for the other war parties. If i knew you guys were ok with my design sketches then i would have posted those the first day.

The war parties are finalized, and what I ment by possible contents was the model may not have matched the picture. Like for example i have had to change the War Chief for the Northwest War Party, form the one in the picture becouse the sculper give him a base instead of a tab.

If you want me to post the final war parties here I will. Like i said the War Parties have been set, and they have been set for Months.

I can understand that but with everyone doing kickstarters now days the bar has been raised on what is expected by pledgers in what information is available and how it's presented. It does suck for the little guy as what the more established people\companies do does affect you.

While I am coming off as a jerk its because I think there's a lot of potential with your project and I know that by not having by this information you're only hurting yourself.

I personally would love to see your sketches to see what have in mind for each culture as most of us really aren't familiar with these cultures outside movies--even if you have big bold letters that warn the designs are early and subject to change.

I concur with Monkeysloth. The biggest fund raisers in a miniature-based Kickstarter are: 1) pics of your primary products, be they sketches, WIP pictures, final renderings, pictures of sculpts/final sculpts; 2) What Add-ons are possible, and what is required to be eligible to purchase them; and, 3) Stretch goals, since they keep people coming back to see what gets unlocked and if they should up their pledge to secure the purchase of anything not labelled as free.

Successful Kickstarters are all about give and take. The publishing companies give us as much info as possible, and the buyers give however much money you can entice them to spend.

At this point, it would be exceptional if you took a day to pull all of your information together, make sure you have good-sized, high-quality pictures of everything you already have and everything you intend/hope to make, lock in some add-ons, set some stretch goals, and then update your Kickstarter with everything you can (hold onto some data to use as updates). I'm sure you are already doing just this, but we're all talking from the experience from an experience buyers's perspective.

Many of us want you to succeed--and we mean *really* succeed! Here's to a great Kickstarter!

I would suspect a lot of the 'art' passed on to the sculptors will be illustrations from history/archeology/ethnography books

So not something he can stick up on the KS without either establishing the images have passed into public domain or getting the original artist or other copyright holders permission

(one of the goals of the KS is to pay for art for the book)
