Going Native:Warpath Kickstarter (Paymaster Games)

Recommended Posts

The Pacific Northwest Tribes are heavily inflenced by the Haida, Tlingit, Makah, Nootka, and several others. I like in Seattle and i wanted to make sure i got the feel right. To tell the truth the Inuit war party will look nothing like the Pacific NW War Party. The Whalers are based on a 1902 photo of a Makah Whaler.

The models are currently planned to be cast in metal.

Well then. I stand corrected and excited.

Is there a reason you paired the Akhlut, an Inuit myth, with this kit if you plan on releasing a separate Inuit party?

Yes, Their is a shortage of native american mythical monsters that came to survive to the modern era. I blame Christians and the spread of their faith in meny parts of america, but that i neither here nor their. It seems that the longer exposure to europeans, the less myths of the local native population just faded away with the passage of time. The preservation of these myths did not even seem importent until the end of the indian wars during the 1800, when educated tribes men returned to write down the stories and myths of their elders that still lived.

Since very few of the existing mythical monsters were just local myths, and meny tribes had version of a monster (Like a Wendigo, their are about 19 versions of this cursed human give or take). So I grouped the spirit beasts in to region, like the War Parties, and allowed it for the War Parties to pick and choose from a large list of beasts, instead of have one tribe have a huge list like the Inuit and others having none like the Inca.

the original cultures and interested in their accurate, if mythic, depiction.

Hmm... Its outside of the scope of this game, but that line inspired me to think about how Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime myths would convert to a skirmish game. Very interesting possibilities.

edit: Wait, no its not outside the scope! Heh. Id missed them in the description there.

Now that you have said something about it, I drew up a Australian Aborigine War Party list and Dreamtime Spirit Beast list out line last week while i was waiting for my kid to get out of school. Beleive it or not their are nearly 22 Dreamtime mythical monsters and 5 of them are Bunyip.

Hey, let's calm things down here. I'm actually surprised that a mod hasn't stepped in already since this is quickly devolving into personal attacks. So let's try to return our focus to the KS itself rather than a discussion about the name and whether it's respectful or not.

Fact: Paymaster Games has come up with the name and has stated that it won't be changed. End of discussion.

Personally, I like the look of what I've seen so far. Pretty darn impressive in my opinion. I haven't pledged yet because I'm not sure if I'd actually use the stuff, but I am keeping an eye on it for the time being.

Sorry - It escalated before I had a chance to see it.

I will be removing a few posts. I am asking NOW for everyone to refrain form personal attacks.

If I continue to see abuse, abusive language, or abusive posts, I will take additional steps.

If your post was removed, it was because:

A: It was itself offensive.

B: It was quoted by an offensive post later, and I felt that leaving it up left room for somebody to post a version of the offensive post all over again.

All removals were made at my sole discretion, and I'm not up for debate on the topic. If you had a valid, non-racially charged point as a separate tangent to the offending part, feel free to repost that portion.

In the meantime, the thread has sort of moved back on topic, and I want to see it stay that way.

Carry on, nicely.

Thanks Bryan!

What do you think about the contents of the Starter kits?

I think you have a nice variety of options available in the Starter kits. However, I do have to hedge a bit since I don't know much of anything about the game system and size of battles. Could you give us some information about the gameplay?

I'm odd that I never look at the rules as I never really tend to play games like this unless it's prepainted (can't stand playing with unpainted minis and I'm to slow of a painter to ever finish an army) so I look at the concepts and finished miniatures only--which are awesome enough for me to increase my pledge though I am hoping to see more greens before this finishes.

Might there be an option to just get some of the minis? I can't get the whole game right now, but I'd love to be a part of this Kickstarter; the concept is great and the designs look intesting.

If not s'okay, I can get the game when it comes out later.

Sounds good! Im interested to see what you came up with. Theres such a wide variety of Dreamtime creatures, so many to choose from. And so many different descriptions and artistic interpretations of the bunyip.

The first thing that came to mind when I started thinking about it were the Quinkan - two races of man-like creature, one tall and thin trickster that can hide in the cracks in rocks and the other short and murderous with fat tails. I remember they were one of my favourite dreamtime stories when I learned about them in school as a kid.
