Bob the Inquisitor
Some friends of mine missed the Kickstarter and are interested in buying some dragons, giants, etc., and Cthulhu to paint. Of course, what thety buy depends on the pricing. Do we know what the retail prices are likely to be?
cmorse
Based on past comments roughly 2-4x the kickstart price. Most of them should be in the 2-3x range. Cthulhu and Kaladrax may be in the 4-5x range since they were discounted below cost for the kickstart.
Shakandara
Once upon a time, long ago in a galaxy far, far away, Bryan dropped some estimated prices on Ebonwrath and some of the early giants. They were roughly doubled the cost of the models as add-ons (slightly higher for the estimate on Ebonwrath, iirc), which also falls in line with the current pricing model (~$2 for a standard size figure) vs. the add on prices for the other standard size figures from the KS. We probably won't know more accurately than that until much closer to actual release. I'd tell your friends to expect retail to be at least 2x the KS cost, and to be prepared for it to be higher on more complex models. ~v
Orlando_the_Technicoloured
You can probably also factor in the cost of the metals (where they exist) The bones should be cheaper than the metal (Bryan has said Cthulhu & Kaladrax were seriously underpriced even by the standards of the KS, so these will probably see the biggest price rise)
Reaperbryan
Since it's only been said twice already, I will add that we anticipate most models doubling in price above what the KS cost was, although 3x and 4x will also happen. The bottom line is this: During KS planning, we made educated guesses about the costs, and while were we were pretty darn accurate, there were some cases we were off, and some other things we haven't factored in completely. For example, I know what Ebonwrath will cost me in Bones, and I know what the pistol cases cost, so I can calculate my MSRP. But what if we decide to come up with a different packaging? Nethyrmaul is unlikely to fit in the Pistol Case, so until I have a packaging solution priced, no MSRP can be provided. Still, 2x or higher is the likeliest. The majority of "character sized" models in Vampire, such as BBEG, Klocke Classics, Pirates, etc. will be $1.99 to $3.49 each - # of pieces/complexity, overall cost per part, % of mold space consumed by that figure, etc. are all factors. Pingo
Nethyrmaul is unlikely to fit in the Pistol Case Oh yeah, check with Turkey Volume Guessing Man. That model has so many jutting bits and is so big, even disassembled I'm not sure what it could be packed in for retail.
Frankthedm
So the purple worm was on the low price range for a model of its size due to it being a one piece cast? Pistol case? Doesn't that seem excessive for a bones figure? Or are clam shell / window box packaging just as costly at the larger sizes?
cloudshaper2k
Neth should be packaged in a miniature guitar case or other small musical instrument case. GMs should be contractually obligated to wear a pinstriped suit when carrying him, talk softly and use words like 'fuggitaboutit.'
Shakandara
From what I understand, the plastic cases Reaper is now using for boxed sets is not much of a cost difference versus the old printed boxes they used to use. The larger items just aren't going to fit into existing blisters, so I'd imagine the question for Reaper becomes, do they source a new packaging style for the larger Bones, or use what they already have supply chain in place for? If the cost difference between a new solution is small, I'd guess they keep the existing packaging solution, as it means less stocking less less packaging overall, as well as less types of packaging. The problem becomes, as Bryan pointed out, when the (partially) assembled large Bones models won't fit into the packaging solutions they already have. This prevents them (for now) from making more accurate assessments of final MSRP. ~v
Dog_Soldier
*Looks at the case he keeps his M1911 in..* .50 cal ammo box then? Nethyrmaul is unlikely to fit in the Pistol Case
Reaperbryan
So the purple worm was on the low price range for a model of its size due to it being a one piece cast? Pistol case? Doesn't that seem excessive for a bones figure? Or are clam shell / window box packaging just as costly at the larger sizes? Ebonwrath fits in a pistol case. If that is the best option - in terms of storage, value, and presentation, then why not? On the other hand, if the case is going to drive up the price, and we can find a less expensive alternative, we have that obligation. After all, the point of Bones is to save you money - driving that price up to give you a case you don't want isn't helping us sell minis, or you store them. We have a lot of decisions to make in the next 3 months, don't read too much into any particular one example. We might go pistol cases. We might develop a larger blister card for the larger figures - weight was always against us doing Ebonwrath on blister before, not so much, now. We might develop a whole new package. Right now, today, at this time, I don't have the answers. But I do know we're working on finding solutions, and making sure they fit our goals for this product. Bob the Inquisitor
So each giant will be about $10? I thought Bryan had put them in the $5 yo $8 range when discussing the storm giants..?
