The Shelf Of Awesome!

this isnt all, I have a few bigger pieces that wont fit in there, and my plastic GW skeleton army isn't worth showing off

the top shelf is a bunch of odds and ends, mostly big monster types

the 2nd shelf is sci-fi/cyberpunk, mostly with Necromunda and 40k bits

the 3rd shelf is wild west, looking to add to that shortly

the 4th shelf is pulp action, also looking to add to it

the 5th shelf is the beginnings of my Nefsokar and Razig armies

the 6th shelf is my reptus army, it overflows onto the shelf below a bit.

the 7th & 8th shelves is general fantasy

I have a couple dozen old minis from the mid-90s, not sure they'd belong on a shelf of awesome, more of a shelf of 'well, it was painted'. So my current era shelf (it's not a shelf, they just sit on the desk) is rather sparse:

My second and first minis, respectively. And the 90s minis that sit on the desk:

SoA2.JPG

The first was a PC thief of mine back in the 80s when he was unpainted lead. He was a study in shading with brown wash, and also an example of poor color choices for a thief.

Second is one of my favorite monsters from the day, he was also unpainted. That was a pretty standard paint job from that era, note where I was starting to play with blue washes over metal.

Tox I already put in Show-Off, he was probably the pinnacle of my work at the time. I wish I could say he was the pinnacle of my poor color schemes!

And I've also already shared my for-reals first-ever painted mini from that era. I'll always remember him because not only is he my first, he was a WIP at my FLGS in central LA when the verdict for the Rodney King beating trial came down.

Pretty much any non-scenic sculpt base at the time was green, red or grey. It's just the tradition of the painters from our gaming group in the 80s.

I took a few snapshots of my curios I keep some of my minis in. These are the ones I currently decided to have displayed, occasionally I will change them around. The rest are kept in foam trays for now until I get my new windows put in my gaming room then I intend to hang some shelves and display the rest.

However, my painted collection is very small compared to most miniature painters, I am working on fixing that and hopefully having more painted someday than unpainted. There are a few in their that aren't finished but I wanted to keep the dust off of until I decide to return to painting them.

My collection no longer fits on "shelves".

Yeah, seriously. If I put all my miniatures out for display, there would be no room left in my house for anything else. As it is, there are already miniatures sitting about everywhere you look (I'm bad at putting things away).

Most of my miniatures are in cases, like these two chessex cases:

There are a few on shelves, like these guys, but they're supposed to be in cases...they've just been used in my campaign within the last few months (I am really bad about putting things away):

Some of my models actually live on shelves, like these oversized Warhammer 40k units:

But only because they won't fit in this massive cabinet of exceedingly broad and deep, but shallow, drawers. Most of my miniatures live here:

The stuff in there is about 75% painted, there is some unfinished WH40k and WHF stuff that just takes up too much space on my table of shame.

That's awesome!

Thanks. I got that print back in 1991 at DragonCon. It's called "King of the Mountain" and is #17 of 880 limited run.

Here's a close up of the Red Dragon:

So don't know ultimately how awesome it is, even though all our works are awesome in our own minds, but I'm pretty stoked about this because just this weekend I was finally able to add some shelves to my curio cabinet. I had four on it originally, but it was getting too full of stuff, so went to a glass cutting shop, had them make me three more shelves, then bought brackets to position them into the cabinet. Now, instead of it feeling overly full I've got lots of space to add more. So if not shelves of awesome, they are at least my Shelves of Swell!! Newer stuff is pretty typically up higher, and hte older stuff, including stuff I did when I was in high school, is down lower on the little general balsa wood bases.
