Bones LTPK

I wouldn't say no to having one Bones LTPK release before my b-day (sept 13th)! Probably too short notice....I second LittleBluberry though! a Christmas release would be perfect!

They're far more reliable than chicken entrails, that's for sure, and less likely to cause neighbors to avoid eye contact. So far, they've accurately predicted that I will have a great deal of painting in my future, and that I shall be pledging for KS 2: BBB. Also that I will meet a tall, dark, handsome man, but then that happens every time my husband comes home.

So I had been impatiently waiting to hear more about whether there will be Bones LTPKs or not, or at the very least if LTPK #2 was going to be in stock in the near future. I checked out Paizo's site to see if they had the existing kit #2 and found this:

Looks like there are placeholder/preorder SKUs for two Bones LTPKs, a basic one at $22 and a deluxe one for $44. No actual useful information about what is *in* the kits but I figured other people might be interested in knowing that this is still potentially a thing.

I wouldn't trust the release date. I've been monitoring the FRPGames pre-order since January and the date's been pushed back.

 

FRPGames also sells W&N brushes. These have also been out of stock for months.

I also found them listed at CCG Armory. No availability date there either.

 

I broke down and ordered brushes through an Amazon. An art supply re-seller had W&N at a reasonable-ish price and Amazon stocks Raphael brushes. I've been checking Dick Blick on and off all summer and they seem to be chronically low on brushes.

@Little: How many kids do you have?

 

DickBlick occasionally has free shipping on orders of $100 or so. If you multiple artists, the brushes can add up quickly. Also, get airbrush medium, matte medium (flat?), flow aid, Master's Brush Soap, and the usual additives. Sign up for their emails for their shipping and other deals.

 

If you have younger children, pick up a child's paint project. Frex, This dinosaur skeleton can use the same drybrush and wash techniques of a miniature (and definitely terrain):

fwiw, The LTPKs will have a regular and deluxe version. AFAIK, The deluxe versions have a DVD with them, already available on the Reaper online store (?). With multiple painters in the house, the DVD might be worth getting?

ced1106, good advice, especially with the DVD instructions. For the record, our oldest is turning 22 this fall while our youngest is 4. Five kids in all. So the oldest snagged a few choice bits from our vampire and painted them over the summer for the Pathfinder campaign he's starting while the youngest has been working on a unicorn we picked up at PAX. I've got lots of cheaper brushes I share, but the Kolinsky is going to be mine, all mine!

 

The real reason why I wanted a Bones LTPK was for my oldest, because he moved out and has no supplies. That's not to say that there might not be another child or two who'd like one, but I have a decent sized hoard of paint that I'll share. LTPKs just tend to be an awesome deal when you're starting out.

How important is to use brush soap? Just got some w&ns one of the #0's splits in two most of the time unless I roll it first. Normal?

It's very very very important if you want your nice, expensive brush to last a good long time, and maintain a good point. After every solid painting session, or whenever I notice that the tip is starting to spread, I'll go and give it a good wash with the soap. I do it twice, since even after the first wash, there's still a bit of residual gunk hiding in there. I'd also recommend using hair conditioner on it whenever you're not going to be using it for a few days; it is natural hair after all, and it gets dry just like regular hair. Just be sure to give it a really good rinse before using it!

 

As for the splitting, mine tends to spread some when it's too dry or paint is starting to accumulate deep inside the brush. I'd give it a good long hair conditioner treatment or two, that seems to be what helps mine.

 

P.S. - I also have a W&N, that's the brush I'm referring to here.

Heck, I use Master's Brush Soap on my cheap brushes, it really does help. Salvaged a brush that had been dipped in paint a little too enthusiastically by my 4-year-old. Unfortunately my W&N brush that arrived today had bristles that were BENT 90 DEGREES during shipping. So back to waiting for the seller to send a replacement. (I'm not prepared to gamble that it will be fine when it started out that abused.)

Hair Conditioner! Thanks for the tip. I never considered that and I'm guessing it will leave my brush silky smooth and smelling great

Just passing along the tip that someone else gave me! :) Make sure you rinse it well before using it, otherwise the paint has a tendency to slide out pretty readily.

I wash my brushes, all of them, cheapor expensive, with brush soap after every change in colour, or if I am doing a lot ofone colour for a base coat, I will do it in the middle. The soap is pretty cheap, lasts a long time,and it makes brushes last
