02788, Leorelex the Dragon Lion

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, it's a great pleasure for me to show you the model I've been working on since three week.

02788, Leorelex the Dragon Lion was sculpted by Geoff Valley. I hope you'll enjoy it. C&C welcome.

I've been documenting my experimentation with Realistic water effect on the base, here's the link to the WIP.

That base is cool. NIce paint work too. How large is that sculpt?

SK

Thanks SK, the besty is 3 inch long and 2.5 inch high. 3.25 inch high with the base. the base itself is 2 inch square. That's makes 7.5 cm long and 6.3 cm high.

To be honest the sculpt in pewter form didn't do anything for me..I wasn't seeing it.

But now I look at it and I can see the wind off the sea, pushing against it.

The pose feels like he's about to jump off the cliff and soar..

I wonder about the white of the base ...if you colored it like the rest of the sand/rocks think it might come together bit better?

Splendid job its been fun following along with this.

"No, no...we don't sail close to THOSE rocks. Last ship that did that lost half their men..."

Excellent work! I agree about the white base, though. It kinda draws attention to itself.

Metalchaos,

Congratulations, it looks great. The water effect looks great; looks like there is some real ebb and flow going on around the rocks. The pigment that you laid down orginally looks good but I would say working from your WIP I would lay it on a little heavier, which is why your WIP's are so great. Lots to learn from.

I really like how you managed to combine the lion and the dragon aspects of this sculpt in your paintjob. It looks natural (in so far that's possible with fantasy mini's :;): ). That water also looks amazing.

Thanks everyone, I'm very happy you like it. Bloodydrake, you're right about the white base, it catches the eyes attention. Usually I repaint the edge of the base in black but this time since I used white primer I tought it would look better if I leave it white because the rocks are pale. Looking back at it, I also think it could be better if it were beige. the thing is that part if the edge is now covered with water so I don't want to risk ruining everything. It will be for a next time, there surely be other time.

That second coat of water stuff seems to have gone a little cloudy. Or is that just the photo?

The blurry effect may come from the fact I sandpapered the ridges to remove the plier marks I did while trimming the excess of product.

Like I already said, the main reason why I share my WIPs is to give hints to anyone that wish to try the different techniques I explore. On the other hand, I receive constructive critiques and opinions that helps me improve. :;):

It's night, it rains and it seems everybody in this forsaken town has closed their doors and windows.
Even the Inn seems to be closed, why?
One would think the villagers are afraid of something.

You hear the sound of wings in the dark sky above you.
Suddenly you hear a soft voice:
All alone in the dark? How nice!

You turn around and the last thing you see is the Necromera.

I painted some Warhammer snake elves up as corn snakes a while back and really liked how they came out. I didn't think the full pattern would work well on a hydra but I went with the same colours and I'm pretty pleased with the result.
